John Chipman (Nova Scotia Politician)
John Chipman (December 18, 1744 – April 29, 1836) was a farmer, judge and political figure in Nova Scotia. He represented the Cornwallis Township in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1776 to 1784. He was born in Newport, Rhode Island, the son of Handley Chipman and Jean Allen, and came to Cornwallis, Nova Scotia with his family. In 1769, he married Eunice Dickson, the daughter of Charles Dickson. He was elected to the provincial assembly in a by-election held after Samuel Willoughby's seat was declared vacant for non-attendance. Chipman was a justice of the peace and judge in the Inferior Court of Common Pleas for King's County. John Smith Chipman
John Smith Chipman (August 10, 1800 – July 27, 1869) was a lawyer and politician from the U.S. state of Michigan. Chipman was born in Shoreham, Vermont, a son of Barnabas and Polly (Smith) Chipman. He attended the rural schools and graduated from Middlebury College in 1823. He studied law, was admitted to the bar, and practiced in Addison County, Vermont, and Essex County, New York. In 1838, he moved to Centreville in St. Joseph County, Michigan, where he held several local offices including serving as a member of the Michigan State House of Representatives in 1842. Chipman was elected as a Democrat from Michigan's 2nd District to the Twenty-ninth Congress, serving from March 4, 1845, to March 3, 1847. After the end of his term, he moved to Niles in Berrien County, Michigan, and later, in 1850, he moved to San Francisco, California, where he resumed the practice of law. John Logan Chipman
John Logan Chipman (June 5, 1830 – August 17, 1893) was a politician from the U.S. state of Michigan who was most notable for his service as a United States representative from 1887 until his death. Early life Chipman was born in Detroit in the Michigan Territory, and attended the public schools of Detroit and the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, Michigan, Ann Arbor, 1843-1845. He engaged in the Lake Superior region as explorer for the Montreal Mining Co. in 1846 and was assistant clerk of the Michigan House of Representatives in 1853. He studied law and admission to the bar in the United States, admitted to the bar in 1854, practicing in the Lake Superior region. John Chipman (economist)
John Somerset Chipman (June 28, 1926 – 2022) was a Canadian-born American economist who was a noted expert on the econometrics of international trade. He was Regents' Professor of Economics at the University of Minnesota, where he later held emeritus status. He was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1979 and to the National Academy of Sciences in 1993. He received his B.A. degree from McGill University in 1947 and an M.A. in Economics and Political Science from the same university in 1948.
