John Chapman (rugby League)
John Chapman is an Australian former rugby League footballer who played in the 1970s and 1980s. He was a premiership winner in Sydney's 1977 NSWRFL season. Career Originally from Blayney, New South Wales, Chapman represented N.S.W. Country as an 18-year-old in 1972 before moving to the St George Dragons in 1973. He played six seasons for St George Dragons, St George between 1973-1978 which included three grand final appearances. He played on the wing in the losing 1975 NSWRFL season, 1975 Grand Final team. Chapman won a premiership with the Dragons in 1977. He played on the wing in the 1977 NSWRFL season, 1977 Grand Final Draw against Parramatta and missed a penalty kick for goal in the dying seconds of extra time, sending the drawn match to a replay. The following Wednesday in the 1977 NSWRFL season, 1977 Grand Final Replay the Dragons beat Parramatta 22-0 and Chapman became at premiership winner. Blayney, New South Wales
Blayney is a farming town and administrative centre with a population of 3,378 in 2016, in the Central West region of New South Wales, Australia. Situated on the Mid-Western Highway about west of Sydney, west of Bathurst and above sea-level, Blayney is the seat of Blayney Shire Council. History Prior to European settlement the area was occupied by the Aboriginal Wiradjuri and, or, Gundungara peoples. The first European to travel through area was surveyor George Evans, in 1815 and unofficial occupation of the district began in 1821. St George Dragons
The St. George Dragons is an Australian rugby league football club from St George District in Sydney, New South Wales that played in the top level New South Wales competition and Australian Rugby League competitions from the 1921 until the 1997 ARL season, as well as the unified 1998 National Rugby League season. On 23 September 1998, the club formed a joint venture with the Illawarra Steelers, creating the St. George Illawarra Dragons team which competed in the 1999 NRL season and continues to compete in the league today. As a stand-alone club, it fields teams in the NSWRL underage men's and women's competitions, Harold Matthews Cup, S.G. Ball, and Tarsha Gale Cup. Entering the New South Wales Rugby Football League in 1921, the St George club won 15 premierships including 11 in succession between 1956 and 1966, still a current world record for sporting competitions. The 1975 New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership was the 68th season of Sydney's professional rugby league football competition, Australia's first. Twelve teams, including six of 1908's foundation clubs and another six from across Sydney competed for the J. J. Giltinan Shield during the season, which culminated in a grand final match for the WD & HO Wills Cup between the Eastern Suburbs and St. George clubs. NSWRFL teams also competed for the 1975 Amco Cup. Season summary The season saw the introduction of differential penalties for scrum offences. Twelve clubs, including six of 1908's foundation teams and another six from around Sydney competed for the J. J. Season summary During the pre-season Parramatta forward Graham Olling made headlines when he became the first rugby league player to admit to taking anabolic steroids, which at the time were not illegal in the sport.
