John Cavanagh (designer)
John Cavanagh (28 September 1914 – 24 March 2003) was an Irish couturier of the 1950s and 1960s. A member of the Incorporated Society of London Fashion Designers (IncSoc), his style has been described as reflecting Parisian chic. He designed the wedding dresses for the Duchess of Kent in 1961 and for Princess Alexandra in 1963. Early life John Cavanagh strongly identified as Irish, telling reporters that he was born in County Mayo, although his obituary in ''The Times'' states he was born in London. He was educated at St Paul's School. In 1932 Cavanagh was employed as a secretary for the couturier Edward Molyneux, first in London, and then in Paris. Molyneux insisted that Cavanagh learn how to draw before employing him. Through trial and error, Cavanagh rose to become supervisor of Molyneux's London branch, before becoming his personal assistant in Paris, where he learned how the haute couture business worked. John Cavanagh (economist)
John Cavanagh (born August 20, 1955) is an American activist. He was the Director of the Institute for Policy Studies in Washington, D.C. from 1998 to 2021, and is a founding fellow of the Transnational Institute. Career Cavanagh earned a B.A. from Dartmouth College and an M.A. from Princeton University. He worked as an international economist for the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development from 1978 to 1981, and the World Health Organization from 1981 to 1982. He directed IPS's Global Economy Project from 1983 to 1997. Cavanagh helped establish the International Forum on Globalization in 1995, and has been active in the anti-North American Free Trade Agreement networks. John Cavanagh (died 1819) was an Irish sportsman, regarded as the greatest fives player in Regency London. Life Cavanagh was employed as a house-painter in London, and was an Irish Catholic by birth. John J. Cavanagh (January 16, 1864 – January 24, 1957) was an American gentleman's hatter based in New York City. He was a Democratic mayor of South Norwalk and of Norwalk, Connecticut. He was a leader in both styling and manufacturing of hats for fifty years. Political career In 1902, Cavanagh was elected mayor of South Norwalk and in 1908, he was elected mayor of Norwalk. He is the only person to have served as mayors of both cities prior to their consolidation in 1913. He was very active in Democratic Party politics, and in 1925 was considered for the candidacy for governor of Connecticut. However, he was unwilling, due to his business responsibilities. He was a founder of the Norwalk Hospital, and was a member of its board of trustees for 20 years.
