Johnny Carey
John Joseph Carey (23 February 1919 – 22 August 1995) was an Irish professional footballer and manager. As a player, Carey spent most of his career at Manchester United, where he was team captain from 1946 until he retired as a player in 1953. He was also a dual internationalist, playing for and captaining both Ireland teams – the FAI XI and the IFA XI. In 1947 he also captained a Europe XI which played a Great Britain XI at Hampden Park. In 1949 he was voted the Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year and in the same year captained the FAI XI that defeated England 2–0 at Goodison Park, becoming the first non- UK team to beat England at home. Carey was also the first non- UK player and the first Irishman to captain a winning team in both an FA Cup Final and the First Division. John Lasarus Williams (29 October 1924 – 15 June 2004), known as John L, was a Welsh nationalist activist. Williams was born in Llangoed on Anglesey, but lived most of his life in nearby Llanfairpwllgwyngyll. In his youth, he was a keen footballer, and he also worked as a teacher. His activism started when he campaigned against the refusal of Brewer Spinks, an employer in Blaenau Ffestiniog, to permit his staff to speak Welsh. John Carey, 3rd Baron Hunsdon
John Carey, 3rd Baron Hunsdon (died 1617) was an English peer, politician and Governor of Berwick-upon-Tweed. Life He was a son of Henry Carey, 1st Baron Hunsdon and Anne Morgan, the younger brother of George Carey, 2nd Baron Hunsdon and a grandson of Mary Boleyn. It is alleged that his father was the illegitimate son of Henry VIII of England born of Mary Boleyn when she was a royal mistress. He was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge. He was knighted in 1598 and succeeded his brother as third Baron Hunsdon in 1603. He held a number of court and public offices including Gentleman pensioner from 1573-1603, Chamberlain of Berwick-upon-Tweed in 1585, Deputy Warden of East March, Justice of the Peace for Cambridgeshire in 1594, and Marshal of Berwick-upon-Tweed from 1596–1598 and again in 1603. John Carey, 2nd Earl Of Dover
John Carey, 2nd Earl of Dover (1608 – 26 May 1677), styled Viscount Rochford from 1628 to 1666, was an English peer. He was the eldest son of Henry Carey, 1st Earl of Dover, and Judith, daughter of Sir Thomas Pelham, 1st Baronet. He was educated at St John's College, Cambridge. Life In 1640, through a writ of acceleration, he was summoned to the House of Lords as Baron Hunsdon. He succeeded his father as Earl of Dover in 1666. That title became extinct on his death in 1677; he was succeeded as Baron Hunsdon by his distant cousin, Robert. Marriages and issue On 9 May 1628, John Carey married Dorothy St. John, daughter of Oliver St John, 1st Earl of Bolingbroke, and Elizabeth Paulet. Dorothy was buried 18 June 1628. John Carey (Wisconsin Politician)
John Carey (April 1, 1839 – June 20, 1888) was an American farmer from Osman, Wisconsin who served as a Democratic member of the Wisconsin State Assembly and the Wisconsin State Senate. Background Carey was born in Ireland on April 1, 1839. His family emigrated to America in 1844, and settled in Albany, New York, where he received a public school education. They lived there until 1852, when they came to Wisconsin and settled in Manitowoc County. Carey became a farmer. Public office Carey was a member of the Manitowoc County board of supervisors in 1862-1865; and was a candidate for sheriff in 1864. In 1870 he ran for state senator from Manitowoc County as a Republican, losing with 1411 votes to 2141 for Democratic State Representative Carl Schmidt and 1011 for William Bach, running on the "People's Party" ticket. Oregon Territorial Legislature
Oregon's Territorial Legislature was a bicameral legislative body created by the United States Congress in 1848 as the legislative branch of the government of the Oregon Territory. The upper chamber Council and lower chamber House of Representatives first met in July 1849; they served as the region's legislative body until Oregon became a state in February 1859, when they were replaced by the bicameral Oregon State Legislature. Ten annual sessions were held, with most starting in December and ending in February. During the sessions the capital of the territory was moved from Oregon City to Salem, then briefly to Corvallis, and back to Salem. John Carey (Ohio State Legislator)
John Carey (born April 18, 1959) is an American politician in the Republican Party. He became the Chancellor of the University System of Ohio in 2013. In 2011, he served as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives, representing the 87th District, before resigning at the end of the year. He also was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 1995 until 2002, and the Ohio Senate from 2003 to 2010. Career Carey graduated from Wellston High School and attended Ohio University, where he earned a degree in political science. After college, he worked as an aide to U.S. Representative Clarence Miller and served as Mayor of Wellston from 1988 to 1994. Carey defeated incumbent Representative Mark Malone in 1994 to take his first term in the Ohio House of Representatives, and won reelection handily in 1996. John Newton Carey (born 11 July 1974) is an Australian politician. A member of the Australian Labor Party, Carey has been the member for Perth in the Western Australian Legislative Assembly, the lower house of the Parliament of Western Australia, since 11 March 2017.
