John Burke (Rhode Island Politician)
John P. Burke (born July 31, 1960) is an American politician serving as a member of the Rhode Island Senate from the 9th district. Elected in November 2020, he assumed office on January 5, 2021. Early life and education A native of West Warwick, Rhode Island, Burke graduated from Bishop Hendricken High School in 1978. He earned an associate degree in computer science from the Community College of Rhode Island. Career Burke worked as a computer operator for Puritan Life Insurance before joining the University of Rhode Island in 1982. At URI, Burke worked as a programmer and database technician before retiring in 2021. West Warwick, Rhode Island
West Warwick is a town in Kent County, Rhode Island, United States. The population was 31,012 at the 2020 census. West Warwick was incorporated in 1913, making it the youngest town in the state. Prior to 1913, the town, situated on the western bank of the Pawtuxet River, was the population and industrial center of the larger town of Warwick. The town split because local Democratic politicians wanted to consolidate their power and isolate their section of town from the Republican-dominated farmland in the east. Adam Satchell
Adam J. Satchell is an American politician and educator who served as a Democratic member of the Rhode Island Senate for the 9th district from January 2013 until 2021 and is the current dean of students for West Warwick High School. Early life and education Satchell was born and raised in Rhode Island. He attended, and graduated from, West Warwick High School in 1999. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Merrimack College and his Master of Arts from Rhode Island College. The Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) is a public community college in Rhode Island. It is the only community college in the state and the largest community college in New England. The college's primary facility is located in Warwick, with additional college buildings throughout the state. History It was founded as Rhode Island Junior College, "RIJC", in 1964 with 325 students studying at the Henry Barnard School in Providence, Rhode Island. Bishop Hendricken High School (or Hendricken) is a Catholic, all-male, college preparatory high school located in Warwick, Rhode Island, in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence. Founded by the Brothers of the Holy Cross in 1959, and named in honor of the first Roman Catholic Bishop of Providence, Thomas Francis Hendricken, the school's faculty was long composed of both lay and religious individuals.
