John Broadbent
Colonel John Broadbent (4 September 1872 – 9 June 1938) was a British British Army, army officer and Conservative Party (UK), Conservative politician. Broadbent was educated at Stamford Academy, Ashton-under-Lyne. In 1895 he received a commission in the 3rd Volunteer Force (Great Britain), Volunteer Battalion of the Manchester Regiment. John Raymond Broadbent (Major General)
Major General John Raymond Broadbent, (24 June 1914 – 27 October 2006) was an Australian Army officer and lawyer. Early life and career Broadbent studied at the University of Sydney, gaining the degrees of Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts in 1938. Military career Broadbent joined the Sydney University Regiment in 1935 and was commissioned in 1937. He served in the 17th Battalion (The North Sydney Regiment) during the interwar period, enlisted in Second Australian Imperial Force on 7 May 1940, and arrived in the Middle East in November. He was appointed captain in 1941. Broadbent returned to Sydney in February 1943 and was posted to New Guinea from August 1943 to February 1944. He was promoted temporary lieutenant colonel in February 1944 and awarded the Distinguished Service Order in April for "energy and determined leadership at Lae and Finschhafen" as a major. Sir John Broadbent, 2nd Baronet
Sir John Francis Harpin Broadbent, 2nd Baronet, FRCP (16 October 1865 – 21 January 1946) was an English physician at St Mary's Hospital, London. He was the elder son of the neurologist Sir William Henry Broadbent, 1st Baronet and his wife Eliza ''née'' Harpin. John was educated at Rugby School and Hertford College, Oxford. He entered St. Mary's Hospital while his father was still an active staff member. He was dean of the Medical School from 1910 to 1920. In 1908 he was secretary of the Section of Medicine at the Sheffield Meeting of the British Medical Association. With his father William, John wrote ''Heart Disease and Aneurism of the Aorta'' in 1897, fourth edition in 1906. He contributed the Rheumatism and Heart articles for the 1911 Encyclopædia Britannica. John Edward "Ed" Broadbent (born March 21, 1936) is a Canadian social-democratic politician, political scientist, and chair of the Broadbent Institute, a policy thinktank. He was leader of the New Democratic Party from 1975 to 1989. In the 2004 federal election, he returned to Parliament for an additional term as the Member of Parliament for Ottawa Centre. Early life and career Broadbent was born in Oshawa, Ontario, the son of Percy, who worked at General Motors, and Mary (Welsh) Broadbent, a homemaker. In 1961, he married Yvonne Yamaoka, a Japanese-Canadian town planner whose family had been interned by the federal government in World War II. They divorced in 1967. On September 22, 1988, when Brian Mulroney's government apologized for the internment, Broadbent brought up Yamaoka's experiences during his remarks in the House of Commons.
