Muncie ( ) is an incorporated city and the county seat, seat of Delaware County, Indiana, Delaware County, Indiana. The 2020 United States Census, United States Census for 2020 reported the city's population was 65,194. It is the principal city of the Muncie metropolitan statistical area, which has a population of 117,671. The Lenape (Delaware (tribe), Delaware) people, led by Buckongahelas arrived in the area in the 1790s, founding several villages, including one known as Munsee Town, along the White River (Indiana), White River. The trading post, renamed Muncietown, was selected as the Delaware County seat and platted in 1827. Its name was officially shortened to Muncie in 1845 and incorporated as a city in 1865. History The Muncie Star was first published in 1899 by owner George McCulloch. In 1901, McCulloch purchased the Muncie Morning News, thus publishing two daily papers; the Muncie Morning Star and the Muncie Evening Press. The newspapers were sold to John C. Shaffer in 1904, then eventually sold to Eugene Pullam's company, Central Newspaper Inc. In 1996, the two newspapers were consolidated to a single publication, the Muncie Star Press. Indiana Republican Party
The Indiana Republican Party is the affiliate of the United States Republican Party in the state of Indiana. The chairman of the Indiana Republican State Committee is Kyle Hupfer. History Republicans dominated Indiana from the 1860s to the 1980s. Democrats gained some power at the state level in the late 1980s to early 2000s, but Republicans have regained domination of Indiana state politics since. At the presidential level, Franklin D. Roosevelt won Indiana in both 1932 and 1936, however, Roosevelt lost only 4 states in 1932 and 2 states in 1936. In 1964, when Barry Goldwater lost every state except for Arizona and 5 Deep South States, Lyndon B. Johnson won Indiana. In 2008, Barack Obama surprisingly won Indiana, however, Obama won most states by a much wider margin than he won Indiana and Obama only won Indiana by one percent. Dennis Tyler
Dennis Tyler (born December 4, 1942) is a convicted felon and former American politician who served as the mayor of Muncie, Indiana. On November 18, 2019, he was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and charged with theft of government funds. He was sentenced on November 10, 2021 to one year and one day, his mayoral term having expired on January 1, 2020. He was released from prison in April 2022. Career Tyler grew up on the south side of Muncie and is a graduate of Muncie Central High School. He served as a Line Captain for the Muncie Fire Department before retiring after 42 years of service. On January 4, 2006, he was sworn into office as a member of the Indiana House of Representatives, elected as the Democratic Party candidate. He represented District 34 for six years.
