John Black (New Brunswick Politician)
John Black (November 23, 1853 – December 29, 1936) was a lawyer and political figure in New Brunswick, Canada. He represented York County in the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick from 1895 to 1899 as a Liberal member. He was born in Kingsclear, New Brunswick, the son of the Reverend John Black and Sarah, the sister of judge Edward Ludlow Wetmore. Black was educated at Fredericton. He studied law and was called to the bar in 1876. Black married a Miss Robb. The New Brunswick Liberal Association (french: Association libérale du Nouveau-Brunswick), more popularly known as the New Brunswick Liberal ''Party'' or Liberal Party of New Brunswick, is one of the two major provincial political parties in New Brunswick, Canada. The party descended from both the Confederation Party and the Anti-Confederation Party whose members split into left-wing and right-wing groups following the creation of Canada as a nation in 1867. The current political organization emerged in the 1880s to serve as an organization housing the supporters of Premier Andrew G. Blair and, later, federal Liberal Party of Canada leader Wilfrid Laurier. Today, the New Brunswick Liberal Party follows the centre-left tradition. York County (2016 population 99,411) is located in west-central New Brunswick, Canada. The county contains the provincial capital, Fredericton. Outside the city, farming and forestry are two major industries in the county, which is bisected by the Saint John River. The Southwest Miramichi River flows through the northern section of the county. History York County was established in 1785, named after the second son of King George III, Prince Frederick-Augustus (1763-1827), who was made Duke of York in 1784. Kingsclear, New Brunswick
Kingsclear is an unincorporated rural area 20 km west of Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. The area includes forests, Saint John River shoreline, agricultural land, small businesses, rural residences, and the Mactaquac Dam. Access is via the Trans-Canada Highway, and NB Routes 102, and 3. Local governance is provided by the Kingsclear Local Service District (KLSD). The KSLD does not govern the Maliseet Indian Reserve Kingsclear 6, which forms an enclave. About 2,800 people live within the area of the KLSD. Named areas include French Village, Island View, Longs Creek, Lower Kingsclear, Ludford Subdivision, Mazerolle Settlement, Newmarket, Oswald Gray Subdivision, Smithfield, and Upper Kingsclear. Edward Ludlow Wetmore
Edward Ludlow Wetmore (March 24, 1841 – January 19, 1922) was a Canadian judge and politician. Born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, the son of Charles Peters Wetmore and Sarah Burr Ketchum, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of New Brunswick in 1859. He was called to the New Brunswick bar in 1864. From 1874 to 1876, he was the mayor of Fredericton. He was elected to Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick and was Leader of the Opposition from 1883 to 1886. In 1886, he was appointed to the Supreme Court of New Brunswick. In 1887, he was appointed puisne judge of the first Supreme Court of the Northwest Territories and in 1907 he was appointed the first Chief Justice of Saskatchewan. He served in this position until 1912. In 1907, he became the first Chancellor of the University of Saskatchewan and served in this position until 1917.
