Johann Joachim Lange
Johann Joachim Lange (26 October 1670 – 7 May 1744) was a German Protestant theologian and philosopher. Lange was born in Gardelegen and educated in Leipzig, Erfurt and Halle. He was influenced by Christian Thomasius and the pietist August Hermann Francke. He became a professor of theology at Halle in 1709, and opposed the philosophy of Christian Wolff. He died in Halle on 7 May 1744. Lange wrote the hymn ''O God, what offering shall I give?'', translated into English by John Wesley in 1739. Johann Peter Lange
Johann Peter Lange (; 10 April 1802 in Sonnborn (now a part of Wuppertal) – 9 July 1884, Bonn), was a German Calvinist theologian of peasant origin. Biography He was born at Sonnborn near Elberfeld, and studied theology at Bonn (from 1822) under K. I. Nitzsch and G. C. F. Lücke, held several pastorates, and eventually (1854) settled at Bonn as professor of theology in succession to Isaac August Dorner, becoming also in 1860 counsellor to the Coblence Consistory of the old-Prussian Rhenish Ecclesiastical Province. Johann de Lange (born 22 December 1959 in Pretoria, Union of South Africa) is an Afrikaans poet, short story writer and critic. He is renowned for being one of the foremost gay writers in Afrikaans, his most controversial book being ''Nagsweet'' ("Night sweat"). Writing career He debuted in 1982 with a collection of poetry titled ''Akwarelle van die dors'' ("Aquarelles of thirst") for which he was awarded the Ingrid Jonker prize in 1983. This was followed by ''Waterwoestyn'' ("Water desert") in 1984, ''Snel grys fantoom'' ("Quick grey phantom") in 1986, ''Wordende naak'' ("Changing") in 1988 which was awarded the Rapport Prize for Poetry, ''Nagsweet'' ("Nightsweat") in 1990, ''Vleiswond'' ("Flesh wound") in 1993 and ''Wat sag is vergaan'' ("That which is soft perishes") in 1995. Johan Lange
Johan Martin Christian Lange (20 March 1818 – 3 April 1898) was a prominent Danish botanist. He held the post of Librarian at the Botanical library of the University of Copenhagen from 1851 to 1858. He was Director of the Botanical Garden there from 1856 to 1876, the Reader of botany at the Danish Technical University from 1857 to 1862, and Reader of Botany at the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University from 1858 to 1893, achieving full professor standing in 1892. He began editing the Flora Danica in 1858, and was its last editor. Together with Japetus Steenstrup, Johan Lange was the publisher of Flora Danica fasc. 44 (1858). Thereafter, he edited alone fasc. 45-51 (1861–83) and Supplement vols 2-3 (1865–74), in total 600 plates. Martin Luther
Martin Luther (; ; 10 November 1483 – 18 February 1546) was a German priest, theologian, author, hymnwriter, and professor, and Order of Saint Augustine, Augustinian friar. He is the seminal figure of the Reformation, Protestant Reformation and the namesake of Lutheranism. Luther was ordained to the Priesthood in the Catholic Church, priesthood in 1507.
