Johan Van Stratum
Johan van Stratum (born 15 April 1982) is a Dutch bassist and a member of the progressive metal band VUUR. He was the bassist of Stream of Passion, and one of the two founding members to stay in the band until it disbanded in 2016. He also played bass live for Ayreon and The Gentle Storm. In July 2021 he was announced as the bass player of German power metal band Blind Guardian. Career Van Stratum started music at age 14 by singing, before being pushed to play bass by his friends. His first instrument was a brandless bass guitar brought for 50 euros. He considers his biggest influences Tim Commerford of Rage Against the Machine, Chris Wolstenholme of Muse, and Reginald Arvizu of Korn. His first band was with future After Forever member and Stream of Passion collaborator Joost van den Broek, with whom he studied music. He also use to teach bass guitar. Progressive Metal
Progressive metal (sometimes shortened to prog metal) is a broad :Fusion music genres, fusion music genre melding heavy metal music, heavy metal and progressive rock, combining the loud "aggression" and amplified electric guitar, guitar-driven sound of the former with the more experimental, cerebral or "pseudo-classical" compositions of the latter. Embrace The Storm
Embrace the Storm is Stream of Passion's debut album released on October 24, 2005 by InsideOut Music. It was preceded by the single "Wherever You Are" (October 18, 2005) and was followed by the single "Out in the Real World" (February 27, 2006), both featured on this album. The album was also released as a dual disc, including on the DVD side the entire album in 5.1 Dolby Surround, a documentary on the making of the album, the video clip of the song "Passion" and a photo gallery. It is the only album with founder, guitarist, keyboardist and composer Arjen Anthony Lucassen, guitarist Lori Linstruth, and keyboardist Alejandro Millán. In This Moment We Are Free – Cities
''In This Moment We Are Free – Cities'' is the debut studio album by progressive metal band VUUR. It was released on 20 October 2017, via Inside Out Music. Apart from the regular edition, the album was released on special editions including a CD digipak and a gatefold 2LP + CD (including etching on side D). Band leader and vocalist Anneke van Giersbergen viewed past collaborator Devin Townsend as an influence on the album. Marcela Bovio was initially going to act as secondary vocalist for the album, but left the band mid-production due to divergences about the direction the vocals should take. Song information All songs on the album are inspired by cities visited by van Giersbergen during her years of touring. Anneke Van Giersbergen
Anna Maria "Anneke" van Giersbergen (born 8 March 1973) is a Dutch singer, songwriter and guitarist who became known worldwide as the lead singer for the rock band The Gathering between 1994 and 2007. She also has a solo career. The project was originally called Agua de Annique, but now goes by her own name. A frequent collaborator of Arjen Anthony Lucassen, she portrayed main characters in the albums ''Into the Electric Castle'', '' 01011001'' and ''The Theater Equation'' by his project Ayreon. In 2014 they collaborated on a project called The Gentle Storm, which produced an album titled '' The Diary'' that was released in 2015. Since 2016 she has formed a new band VUUR with members of The Gentle Storm live band and her own solo band, to focus on the heavier side of her music. ''A War of Our Own'' is the fourth and final studio album by the Dutch progressive metal band Stream of Passion. Stream of Passion produced the album after leaving Napalm Records, financing it through crowdfunding website Indiegogo, and was their only album with the same line-up as its predecessor. Background Having signed to Napalm Records in 2008, Stream of Passion parted with the record label in 2012. Speaking about the split, lead vocalist Marcela Bovio said: "I would rather not get very specific but let's say that we didn't think that we had the same ideas, and we didn't really think that they 'got' us that well". Soon after, the band decided to fund their planned fourth album by way of fan donations, announcing a campaign through the crowdfunding website Indiegogo on July 16, 2013. It is the first album with guitarists Eric Hazebroek and Stephan Schultz and keyboardist Jeffrey Revet, who are replacing three members who departed in 2007, including Stream of Passion's founder and original composer Arjen Anthony Lucassen, who left as he was planning since its creation.
