Progressive Rock
Progressive rock (shortened as prog rock or simply prog; sometimes conflated with art rock) is a broad genre of rock music that developed in the United Kingdom and United States through the mid- to late 1960s, peaking in the early 1970s. Initially termed "progressive pop", the style was an outgrowth of psychedelic bands who abandoned standard pop traditions in favour of instrumentation and compositional techniques more frequently associated with jazz, folk, or classical music. Additional elements contributed to its " progressive" label: lyrics were more poetic, technology was harnessed for new sounds, music approached the condition of "art", and the studio, rather than the stage, became the focus of musical activity, which often involved creating music for listening rather than dancing. Progressive rock is based on fusions of styles, approaches and genres, involving a continuous move between formalism and eclecticism. Due to its historical reception, the scope of progressiv ...

QuAUDIOPHILIAc
''Quaudiophiliac'' (styled ''QuAUDIOPHILIAc'') is a compilation album featuring music by Frank Zappa, released in DVD-Audio format by Barking Pumpkin Records in 2004. It compiles recordings he made while experimenting with quadraphonic, or four-channel, sound in the 1970s. Zappa prepared quadraphonic mixes of a number of his 1970s albums, with both ''Over-Nite Sensation'' (1973) and ''Apostrophe (')'' (1974) being released in discrete quadraphonic on Zappa's DiscReet Records label. Produced by Zappa, and completed by his son, Dweezil Zappa, ''Quaudiophiliac'' includes several previously unreleased works in this format. The recordings date from as early as 1970, with "Chunga Basement", a version of the title track from ''Chunga's Revenge'' (1970). Also included are three tracks from the 1975 Royce Hall, UCLA concerts with the Abnuceals Emuukha Electric Orchestra which would become ''Orchestral Favorites'' (1979); plus a quad remix of a segment of Zappa's 1968 musique concrète mast ...

AllMusic
AllMusic (previously known as All Music Guide and AMG) is an American online music database. It catalogs more than three million album entries and 30 million tracks, as well as information on musicians and bands. Initiated in 1991, the database was first made available on the Internet in 1994. AllMusic is owned by RhythmOne. History AllMusic was launched as ''All Music Guide'' by Michael Erlewine, a "compulsive archivist, noted astrologer, Buddhist scholar and musician". He became interested in using computers for his astrological work in the mid-1970s and founded a software company, Matrix, in 1977. In the early 1990s, as CDs replaced LPs as the dominant format for recorded music, Erlewine purchased what he thought was a CD of early recordings by Little Richard. After buying it he discovered it was a "flaccid latter-day rehash". Frustrated with the labeling, he researched using metadata to create a music guide. In 1990, in Big Rapids, Michigan, he founded ''All Music Guide' ...

Joe's Corsage
''Joe's Corsage'' is a compilation album featuring music recorded by Frank Zappa with The Mothers of Invention in the mid-1960s, before the recording of their debut album ''Freak Out!'' (1966). The album was compiled by archivist Joe Travers, and its title is a play on Zappa's 1979 work ''Joe's Garage''. Overview A number of the recordings featured on ''Joe's Corsage'' are demo versions of songs that would later appear on ''Freak Out!''. The first set of demos, probably recorded in 1965, feature Henry Vestine on guitar, who would later be a member of Canned Heat. Also included are covers of the Righteous Brothers' "My Babe", and Marvin Gaye's "Hitch Hike". The opening and closing tracks are excerpts from an interview with Frank Zappa circa 1967. Track listing All tracks by Frank Zappa, except where noted. Pal Recording Studio
Pal Recording Studio (1957–1964) was an independent recording studio that operated in Cucamonga, California (now known as Rancho Cucamonga.) The studio was started by engineer/innovator Paul Buff. The studio is known for its instrumental Surf music recordings such as " Wipe Out" and the original demo recording of "Pipeline". The first location was at 8020 North Archibald Avenue. Later, the studio moved down the street to 8040. Pal was also the training ground for a young Frank Zappa who worked at the studio starting in 1961. Zappa learned basic recording techniques at Pal. He recorded his first rock n' roll record, "Breaktime", by the Masters, which consisted of himself, Paul Buff, and Ronnie Williams. In 1964, Zappa bought the studio and renamed it Studio Z. Zappa lived at the studio building for a few months before it was closed in 1965. The building had to be torn down in order to widen North Archibald Avenue. Zappa made many other recordings at the studio. Some were releas ...

Mystery Disc
''Mystery Disc'' is a compilation album by Frank Zappa. It was released on CD in 1998, compiling tracks that were originally released on two separate vinyl records and included in the mail order ''Old Masters'' box sets, which were released in three volumes between 1985 and 1987. (These box sets, issued on Barking Pumpkin, contained repressings of Zappa's albums from ''Freak Out!'' (1966) to ''Zoot Allures'' (1976), along with a 'Mystery Disc' in boxes one and two.) The CD omits the last two tracks from the 1985 LP, "Why Don'tcha Do Me Right?" and "Big Leg Emma", both of which were included on the CD version of '' Absolutely Free'' (1967) in 1989. The recordings featured on ''Mystery Disc'' cover the early stages of Zappa's career, and were made between 1962 and 1969 (with the exception of "The Story of Willie the Pimp", a 1972 'field recording'). The material overlaps in places with that of ''You Can't Do That on Stage Anymore, Vol. 5'' (1992), ''Ahead of Their Time'' (1993), ''T ...
