Joe's Valley is a large concentration of sandstone boulders east of the Joe's Valley Reservoir near Orangeville, Utah. Sandstone
Sandstone is a clastic sedimentary rock composed mainly of sand-sized (0.0625 to 2 mm) silicate grains. Sandstones comprise about 20–25% of all sedimentary rocks. Most sandstone is composed of quartz or feldspar (both silicates) because they are the most resistant minerals to weathering processes at the Earth's surface. Like uncemented sand, sandstone may be any color due to impurities within the minerals, but the most common colors are tan, brown, yellow, red, grey, pink, white, and black. Since sandstone beds often form highly visible cliffs and other topographic features, certain colors of sandstone have been strongly identified with certain regions. Joes Valley Reservoir
Joes Valley Dam (National ID # UT10124) is a dam in Emery County, Utah. The earthen dam was constructed between 1963 and 1965 by the United States Bureau of Reclamation, with a height of 192 feet and 750 feet long at its crest. It impounds Seely Creek for irrigation and municipal water supply. The dam is owned by the Bureau and operated by the local Emery Water Conservancy District as part of the Emery County Project, which also includes Huntington North Dam. The reservoir it creates, Joes Valley Reservoir, has a water surface of about two square miles and a maximum capacity of 54,920 acre-feet. Recreation includes fishing, hunting, boating, camping and hiking. The site is surrounded by the Manti-La Sal National Forest. Orangeville is a city in northwestern Emery County, Utah, United States, at the edge of the Manti-La Sal National Forest. The city is at the junction of State Routes 29 and 57, straddling the banks of Cottonwood Creek. The population was 1,470 at the 2010 census. Bouldering is a form of free climbing that is performed on small rock formations or artificial rock walls without the use of ropes or harnesses. While bouldering can be done without any equipment, most climbers use climbing shoes to help secure footholds, chalk to keep their hands dry and to provide a firmer grip, and bouldering mats to prevent injuries from falls.
