Jo Kruyder-Bouman
Johanna Laura "Jo" Kruyder-Bouman (1886–1973) was a Dutch painter. Biography Kruyder-Bouman née Bouman was born on 6 April 1886 in Amsterdam. From 1904 to 1908 she studied at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten (State Academy of Fine Arts) in Amsterdam. From 1909 to 1912 studied at ''School voor Kunstnijverheid (Haarlem)'' (School for Arts and Crafts Haarlem). In 1916 she married fellow artist Herman Kruyder. She was a member of ''Kunstenaarsvereniging De Onafhankelijken'', ''De Ploeg'', and ''Amersfoorts Kunstenaars Genootschap'' (AKG). Kruyder-Bouman exhibited at the annual shows of ''Vereeniging Sint Lucas''. From 1928 through 1960 she exhibited with ' (The Independents). Her work was included in the 1939 exhibition and sale ''Onze Kunst van Heden'' (Our Art of Today) at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. The Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten (State Academy of Fine Arts) was founded in 1870 in Amsterdam. It is a classical academy, a place where philosophers, academics and artists meet to test and exchange ideas and knowledge. The school supports visual artists with a two-year curriculum. The Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten was the home of Amsterdam Impressionism, part of the international impressionist movement, and is known as the School of Allebé by art historians; August Allebé became the school's director in 1880. In French language the school was called "l'Académie Royale des Beaux Arts d'Amsterdam". Among its pioneers here were George Breitner, Jan Toorop, Piet Mondrian, Jacques Witjens and Willem Arnoldus Witsen. De Ploeg
De Ploeg (; en, The Plough or ''The Group'') is an artist collective from the city of Groningen in the Netherlands. The collective was established in 1918 by a group of young artists. Their goal was to create new opportunities for exhibitions and to educate the general public about developments in art, architecture, and literature. The name was suggested by one of the founding members Jan Altink, because he felt like a lot of ground still had to be broken for modern art in Groningen. Several art styles were prominent within "De Ploeg", including expressionism, constructivism and impressionism. This artist collective still exists, but its most important time lay in the 1920s. |

Onze Kunst van Heden (Contemporary Artists/Our Art of Today) was an exhibition held in the winter of 1939 through 1940 at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Due to the threat of invasion in the years leading up to World War II, the Netherlands' government stored many items from the Rijksmuseum's permanent collection. The resulting empty gallery space was utilized by contemporary Dutch artists to exhibit and sell their art. It was organized by the director of the Rijksmuseum .
