Jimmy Shields (baseball)
James Edward Shields Jr. (September 8, 1905 – November 21, 1963) was an American Negro league pitcher in 1928 and 1929. A native of Petersburg, Virginia, Shields attended Peabody High School and Virginia Union University. He broke into the Negro leagues in 1928 with the Bacharach Giants, and posted a 3–2 record on the mound. Shields died in Petersburg in 1963 at age 58. James Allen Shields (1929 - July 16, 1996) was a Canadian curler and race horse owner. He is a and a . Shields grew up in Sceptre, Saskatchewan, where he was a star baseball player, and was inducted into the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame. While in Saskatchewan, he attended the University of Saskatchewan. He began curling at the age of 12 and moved to Calgary in the 1950s, where he worked for Sun Oil's land department, and would later start up Nordic Oil. Shields was also an owner of race horses and formed Canada West Ranches with fellow curlers Ron Northcott and Barry Naimark, plus friends Al MacDonald and Eric Bishop. Robert James Shields (26 September 1931 – 9 January 2020) was a professional footballer who played at centre forward for Southampton in the late 1950s, as well as for the Northern Ireland national football team. Playing career Born in Derry, Shields was a Northern Ireland youth international. He started his professional career in Belfast with Crusaders and was part of the Crusaders side which claimed their first major honour, the 1953–54 Ulster Cup. He was rewarded with an inter-league appearance (in a 5–0 defeat by the Football League at Windsor Park in September 1953) and an Amateur cap (when he scored in a 3–2 win over Wales in January 1954). He moved to England in March 1954 when he was signed by Sunderland but failed to break into their first team. In July 1956 he moved to the south coast to join Southampton for a fee of £1,000 which was funded by the Saints Supporters Club. William Haines
Charles William Haines (January 2, 1900 – December 26, 1973) was an American actor and interior designer. Haines was discovered by a talent scout and signed with Goldwyn Pictures in 1922. His career gained momentum when he received favorable reviews for his role in '' The Midnight Express''. He was cast in the 1926 film '' Brown of Harvard'' and his performance solidified his screen persona as a wisecracking, arrogant leading man. By the end of the 1920s, Haines had appeared in a string of successful films and was a popular box-office draw. Haines' acting career was cut short by the studios in the 1930s due to his refusal to deny his homosexuality. He quit acting in 1935 and started a successful interior design business with his life partner Jimmie Shields, and his work was widely patronized by friends in Hollywood.
