Jimmy Brown (footballer, Born 1924)
James Brown (16 February 1924 – 17 January 2002) was a Scottish footballer who played as a centre forward for clubs in Scotland and England. Brown was born in Cumnock. He was a prolific goal-scorer in a brief career following the Second World War, notably scoring 16 goals in just 18 games for Motherwell and being Bradford City's club top scorer in his one season at the club, in 1948–49, when he amassed 11 goals in 20 games. He also played for Chesterfield and the Queen of the South side of Billy Houliston, Roy Henderson, Jim Patterson and Dougie Sharpe. Cumnock
Cumnock (Scottish Gaelic: ''Cumnag'') is a town and former civil parish located in East Ayrshire, Scotland. The town sits at the confluence of the Glaisnock Water and the Lugar Water. There are three neighbouring housing projects which lie just outside the town boundaries, Craigens, Logan and Netherthird, with the former ironworks settlement of Lugar also just outside the town, contributing to a population of around 13,000 in the immediate locale. A new housing development, Knockroon, was granted planning permission on 9 December 2009 by East Ayrshire Council. Billy Houliston
William Houliston (4 April 1921 – 10 February 1999) was a Scottish footballer who played for Crichton, Queen of the South, Berwick Rangers, Third Lanark and the Scotland national team. Early years Houliston was born in Maxwelltown, at Westpark Cottages, where he lived for a short while before his family moved to a house at the Crichton in Dumfries. He played for Brownhall Primary School in the Dumfries and District Primary School League at centre half, and represented the League in cup matches against other areas. Dougie Sharpe
Dougie Sharpe (1926–1974) was a Scottish footballer who played for Queen of the South from the town of Dumfries. Early years Dougie Sharpe was a native of New Abbey. He played for St Michael's Primary School team in Dumfries and then Dumfries Academy before joining local amateur side Greystone Rovers. In the last football season before World War II Sharpe joined Queen of the South on amateur forms. However the war meant his football career was put on hold as he joined the RAF serving in North Africa. Queen of the South Sharpe re-joined Queens in 1946 after World War Two ended on professional forms. Sharpe was one of the finest full backs to have played for the football club. Sharpe always played with great passion and gave 100%. He debuted at left half but was soon switched to the position that he is always remembered for at right full back. Jim Patterson (Scottish Footballer)
James Patterson (c. 1928 – 16 December 2012) was a Scottish professional footballer. Patterson is the all-time record goalscorer for Dumfries club Queen of the South, with 251 goals. Early years Patterson was playing for Luncarty in his native Perthshire, with his performances catching the attentions of onlooking scouts. One of these was from Queens, who, rather than move for the big forward, were waiting for his demob from the army. This nearly cost the Dumfries club dear. Patterson was invited to spend a weekend with Manchester City for a trial and a look around. An ex-Queens player, Jackie Oakes, was at City at the time and made arrangements for Patterson's accommodation in anticipation of his extended stay. Roy Donald Henderson (7 June 1923 – 16 January 1997) was a Scottish footballer who played as a goalkeeper, best known for his time with Dumfries club Queen of the South.
