Jimmy Armstrong (American Football)
James Burton Armstrong (born June 18, 1962) is a former American football cornerback in the National Football League for the Dallas Cowboys. He played college football at Appalachian State University. Early years Armstrong attended Lucy Ragsdale High School. He accepted a football scholarship from Appalachian State University, where he started at cornerback. Professional career Armstrong was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Dallas Cowboys after the 1987 NFL Draft. He played in only one preseason game and was waived on August 17. Cornerback
A cornerback (CB) is a member of the defensive backfield or secondary in gridiron football. Cornerbacks cover receivers most of the time, but also blitz and defend against such offensive running plays as sweeps and reverses. They create turnovers through hard tackles, interceptions, and deflecting forward passes. Other members of the defensive backfield include strong and free safeties. The cornerback position requires speed, agility, strength, and the ability to make rapid sharp turns. A cornerback's skill set typically requires proficiency in anticipating the quarterback, backpedaling, executing single and zone coverage, disrupting pass routes, block shedding, and tackling. The National Football League Players Association, or NFLPA, is a labor union representing National Football League (NFL) players. The injured reserve list ( IR list) is a designation used in North American professional sports leagues for athletes who suffer injuries and become unable to play. The exact name of the list varies by league; it is known as "injured reserve" in the National Football League (NFL) and National Hockey League (NHL), the "injured list" in the Canadian Football League (CFL), and the injured list (historically known as the "disabled list") in Major League Baseball (MLB). The National Basketball Association (NBA) does not have a direct analog to an injured reserve list, instead using a more general-purpose "inactive list" that does not require a player to be injured.
