James Wilkinson
James Wilkinson (March 24, 1757 – December 28, 1825) was an American soldier, politician, and double agent who was associated with several scandals and controversies. He served in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War, but he was twice compelled to resign. He was twice the Senior Officer of the U.S. Army, appointed to be the first Governor of the Louisiana Territory in 1805, and commanded two unsuccessful campaigns in the St. Lawrence River theater during the War of 1812. He died while posted as a diplomat in Mexico City. In 1854, following extensive archival research in the Spanish archives in Madrid, Louisiana historian Charles Gayarré exposed Wilkinson as having been a highly paid spy in the service of the Spanish Empire. In the years since Gayarré's research became public, Wilkinson has been savagely condemned by American historians and politicians. James Kemsey Wilkinson (December 1906 – December 1997) was an English businessman, the founder of the high street chain Wilko. In 2014, it was reported that Wilko had 372 stores, 23,000 employees and annual revenues of £1.5 billion. Early life James Kemsey Wilkinson was born on 6 December 1906. Career Together with his fiancée, Mary Cooper, he founded ''Wilkinson Cash Stores'' in Leicester in 1930, opening their first store there at 151 Charnwood Street. His brother Donald already had a hardware store in Birmingham, and two of his stores in Handsworth later joined the chain. James Wilkinson (Australian Politician)
James Wilkinson (30 November 1854 – 11 January 1915) was an Australian politician. Wilkinson was born and raised in Ipswich, Queensland, attending both state and grammar schools. During his early years he was an engine-driver and railways unionist before serving as an Alderman on Ipswich Council. Wilkinson represented the Electoral district of Ipswich in the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 1894 to 1896 for the Australian Labor Party. He was elected for the seat of Moreton in the Parliament of Australia in 1901, as an Independent Labour member, but rejoined the Labor Party in 1903. Wilkinson died in 1915. His funeral took place from his Martin Street residence in Ipswich and he was buried in the Ipswich General Cemetery. James Scott Wilkinson (born 4 December 1951) is an Australian former politician and sportsman, who was an independent member of the Tasmanian Legislative Council, representing the Division of Queenborough from 1995, then the Division of Nelson from 1999 when Queenborough was abolished. He was President of the Tasmanian Legislative Council from 2013, until his retirement from the council in May 2019. As a child, Wilkinson lived in Battery Point and later Sandy Bay where he attended Hutchins School. Upon completing his studies, he moved to Melbourne to play for South Melbourne in the VFL between 1970 and 1972. After three years in Melbourne, he then returned to Tasmania to study law, while also continuing with sport playing football and cricket for Sandy Bay. James Wilkinson (born 28 February 1951) won a silver medal in sailing for Ireland with partner David Wilkins at the 1980 Moscow Olympics in the Flying Dutchman class.
