Jim Stevenson is a Scottish former rugby union player. He was the 121st President of the Scottish Rugby Union. Rugby Union career Amateur career Stevenson started with Rutherglen. He played for Cambuslang. He then played for Dalziel. Administrative career He has represented both Glasgow District and Lanarkshire. He was a president of Cambuslang. Stevenson became the 121st President of the Scottish Rugby Union. He served two years from 2008 to 2010. Stevenson had tried to be President the year before, running against George Jack and Peter Brown in the first ever three way vote for the presidency. Stevenson lost out to Jack in the final round of voting; by 91 votes to 75 votes. Jack then decided to put himself forward for another year as president. Stevenson decided to run again for the top post. One of Jack's aims for another year was to scrap the Scottish Cup. Cambuslang RFC
Cambuslang RFC is a rugby union side based in Cambuslang, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. The team was established in 1903. They play their home games at Coats Park. They currently play in . History On 7 August 1903, a meeting was held under the Presidency of the late H. Shepherd, Esq., at which it was decided to form a Rugby Club at Cambuslang. The Club commenced playing at Greenlees Farm, and under the guidance of Mr. Shepherd and the benevolent auspices of the late Dr. T. D. Laird, its Honorary President, went from strength to strength until the beginning of the 1914–1918 War. Scottish Cup (rugby Union)
The Scottish Cup is the annual knock-out cup competition for domestic rugby union clubs in Scotland. The cup has been competed for since the 1995-1996 season. The competition was in abeyance between 2019 and 2022, initially due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and made its return in the 2022-23 season. Despite many structural changes the competition has always culminated with the final at Murrayfield Stadium. Format Clubs in the three National Leagues compete in the first round, with six Premiership sides added in the second round, and the final four Premiership teams added in the third round of the competition. As part of the Scottish Cup Finals day, the finals of the Shield and Bowl competitions are also held. Clubs outside the National League compete in one of four regional tournaments (Borders, Caledonia, Edinburgh, and West) during the season, with the winners of each playing in a semi-final against another region. Cambuslang
Cambuslang ( sco, Cammuslang, from gd, Camas Lang) is a town on the south-eastern outskirts of Greater Glasgow, Scotland. With approximately 30,000 residents, it is the 27th largest town in Scotland by population, although, never having had a town hall, it may also be considered the largest village in Scotland. It is within the local authority area of South Lanarkshire and directly borders the town of Rutherglen to the west. Historically, it was a large civil parish incorporating the nearby hamlets of Newton, Flemington, Westburn and Halfway. Cambuslang is located just south of the River Clyde and about southeast of the centre of Glasgow. Finlay Calder OBE (born 20 August 1957) is a Scotland international former rugby union player. Rugby Union career Amateur career Born in Haddington, East Lothian and educated at Stewart's Melville College, Calder played at open side flanker. He played for Stewart's Melville and Heriots. Peter Brown (born 16 December 1941) is a former Scotland international rugby union player. He played No. 8 and Lock. Rugby Union career Amateur career Brown played for West of Scotland and Gala. Brown was dubbed "the man on the coathanger" in his playing days because of his unusually square shoulders inherited from his maternal grandmother's side of the family. Dalziel Rugby Football Club, formerly known as Dalziel High School Former Pupils Rugby Club, currently has a playing and social membership hailing from Motherwell, Wishaw, Bellshill and other parts of Lanarkshire, Scotland. Historically the club was closely associated with Dalziel High School in Motherwell from which it takes its name. A number of current players are former pupils of Dalziel High School. However, during the 1990s it was felt that the club should drop the "former pupil" tag and be known, in what was felt to be a more inclusive manner, as Dalziel RFC.
