Jim Pearce (footballer)
James Pearce (13 September 1909 – 1986) was a Welsh footballer who played as a centre half. He made over 150 Football League appearances in the years before the Second World War. Career Pearce played locally for Chirk and for the Royal Tank Corps in the Army, and was on the books of Wrexham on amateur terms. Bob Hewison signed Pearce in August 1934 for Bristol City. Pearce joined Rochdale in May 1939. Pearce represented the Army during wartime service in Greece and the Middle East. In the sport of association football, a defender is an outfield position whose primary role is to stop attacks during the game and prevent the opposition from scoring. Bob Hewison
Robert Hewison (25 March 1889 – 1964) was an English footballer who filled various roles on the left of the pitch before going on to make his name as a manager. Playing career Born in Backworth, Northumberland, Hewison began his playing career with North East England non-league sides East Holywell Villa and Whitley Athletic before joining Newcastle United in 1910. He joined Leeds City in 1914 but due to the First World War and their expulsion from the Football League he never appeared in an official league match for the club. After suffering a leg break during the 1918-19 season Hewison was asked to serve as City's secretary during their winding up. Management career Hewison briefly returned to Newcastle before joining Northampton Town in 1920 as a player-manager. He remained in this position until 1925 when, having retired from playing, he switched to Queens Park Rangers as manager. Chirk
Chirk ( cy, Y Waun) is a town and community in Wrexham County Borough, Wales, south of Wrexham, between it and Oswestry. At the 2011 census, it had a population of 4,468. Historically in the traditional county of Denbighshire, and later Clwyd, it has been part of Wrexham County Borough since a local government reorganisation in 1996.
