Jim Michalanney
James Michalanney is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Norwood Football Club in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). Known as a tall and strong-marking forward with the nicknames "Big Jim" and "Piano" for his perfect set of white teeth, Michalanney was part of four Norwood premierships. He was forced to miss the whole of the 1980 SANFL season due to a mystery groin complaint which was eventually diagnosed as deep-seated pelvic bone damage. During that time, Michalanney took up croquet at the Norwood Club and won the 1980 South Australian All Grades Doubles Championship, a handicap trophy. In 1984, he was awarded Life Membership of the Norwood Football Club. Michalanney worked as a school teacher during his playing days, and later became principal of Murray Bridge High School. Max Michalanney (born 26 February 2004) is a professional Australian rules football player who plays for Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Early career Michalanney is the son of Jim Michalanney who played 211 games and won 4 premierships with Norwood in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). As a junior he progressed to play three senior games for Norwood in the SANFL. He previously played junior football for Glenunga Rams and school football for Rostrevor. Despite living in the Sturt development zone, he was able to join Norwood under the SANFL father son rule. While representing South Australia in the National Championships he was rewarded for his consistency by winning All-Australian selection. The ''South Australian Football Budget'' is the matchday programme of the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). History A publication known as the ''SA Football Budget'' was first produced in 1914 but was discontinued due to the onset of the First World War. After the return of competition the magazine returned as the ''SA Footballer'', later changing to the current name. The ''Budget'' is a 32-page publication. At its core are the lists of teams playing each weekend, along with player statistics and details of umpires. The South Australia state football team is the representative side of South Australia in the sport of Australian rules football. South Australia has a proud history in interstate football, having a successful historical record. The South Australian National Football League, or SANFL ( or ''S-A-N-F-L''), is an Australian rules football league based in the Australian state of South Australia. It is also the state's governing body for the sport. Originally formed as the South Australian Football Association on 30 April 1877, the SANFL is the oldest surviving football league of any code in Australia and is the 7th oldest club football league in the world.
