Jim Malone (ice Hockey)
James Edward Malone (born February 20, 1962) is a Canadian retired professional ice hockey centre. Career Malone was an outstanding junior hockey player with the Toronto Marlboros of the ( OMJHL/ OHL), racking up 48 points with the Marlboros in his rookie season 1979–80. He was picked in the 1st round, 14th overall, in the 1980 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Rangers. He continued to play with the Marlboros until 1982. Malone then moved on and played with the Tulsa Oilers of the Central Hockey League (CHL) in 1982–83, where he had 15 points in 29 games. In December 1982 Malone suffered a knee injury. Malone came back from the injury to play with the Moncton Alpines of the American Hockey League (AHL) for the rest of the 1982–83 season. He returned to the Tulsa Oilers for the 1983–84 season and went on to win the league's playoff title that year. Centre (ice Hockey)
The centre (or center in the United States) in ice hockey is a forward position of a player whose primary zone of play is the middle of the ice, away from the sideboards. Centres have more flexibility in their positioning and therefore often end up covering more ice surface than any other player. Centres are ideally strong, fast skaters who are able to back-check quickly from deep in the opposing zone. Generally, centres are expected to be gifted passers more so than goal scorers, although there are exceptions - typically larger centres who position themselves directly in front of the net in order to score off rebounds. American Hockey League
The American Hockey League (AHL) is a professional ice hockey league based in the United States and Canada that serves as the primary developmental league for the National Hockey League (NHL). Since the 2010–11 season, every team in the league has an affiliation agreement with one NHL team. When NHL teams do not have an AHL affiliate, players are assigned to AHL teams affiliated with other NHL teams. Twenty-six AHL teams are located in the United States and the remaining six are in Canada. The league offices are located in Springfield, Massachusetts, and its current president is Scott Howson. In general, a player must be at least 18 years of age to play in the AHL or not currently be beholden to a junior ice hockey team. Goal (ice Hockey)
In ice hockey, a goal is scored when the puck entirely crosses the goal line between the two goal posts and below the goal crossbar. A goal awards one point to the team attacking the goal scored upon, regardless of which team the player who actually deflected the puck into the goal belongs to (see also own goal). Typically, a player on the team attempting to score shoots the puck with their stick towards the goal net opening, and a player on the opposing team called a goaltender tries to block the shot to prevent a goal from being scored against their team. 2007 NHL Entry Draft
The 2007 NHL Entry Draft was the 45th NHL Entry Draft. It was hosted at Nationwide Arena in the city of Columbus, Ohio, on June 22, 2007. The draft consisted of seven rounds with rounds two through seven taking place on June 23, 2007. The draft was televised on TSN and RDS, with the first round simulcasted in the United States on Versus and in Europe on NASN. Columbus Blue Jackets' President and General Manager Doug MacLean and the NHL announced the event on March 21, 2006. On March 13, 2007, it was reported that NHL owners had voted in favor of changes to the team ranking system which would begin at the 2007 draft. Colorado Avalanche
The Colorado Avalanche (colloquially known as the Avs) are a professional ice hockey team based in Denver. They compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Central Division in the Western Conference. The Avalanche play their home games at Ball Arena, which they share with the NBA's Denver Nuggets and Colorado Mammoth of the National Lacrosse League. Founded in 1972 as the Quebec Nordiques, the team was one of the charter franchises of the World Hockey Association. The franchise joined the NHL in 1979 as a result of the NHL–WHA merger. Brad Malone
Bradley Malone (born May 20, 1989) is a Canadian professional ice hockey forward who plays for the Bakersfield Condors in the American Hockey League (AHL) while under contract to the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League (NHL). He has previously played with the Colorado Avalanche, with whom he was drafted, and the Carolina Hurricanes. Playing career Malone was born in Chatham, New Brunswick, where he played hockey as a youth. Ryan Malone
Ryan Gregory Malone (born December 1, 1979) nicknamed "Bugsy", is an American former professional ice hockey forward. He played in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Rangers. In 2003, he became the first Pittsburgh-born and trained player to suit up for the Penguins in an NHL game. Greg Malone (ice Hockey)
William Gregory Malone (born March 8, 1956) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centre and former scout for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Phoenix Coyotes, and Tampa Bay Lightning. Career Malone was a scoring star in Fredericton, New Brunswick before moving on to the Oshawa Generals of the OHA. After recording consecutive 30-goal seasons, the Pittsburgh Penguins selected him in the second round, 19th overall in the 1976 NHL Entry Draft. He went on to spend the majority of his career with the Penguins followed by three productive years with the Hartford Whalers. Malone was traded from Hartford to the Quebec Nordiques for Wayne Babych but never produced with his new team and retired in 1987. Overall, he had a productive NHL career, scoring a total of 501 points (191 goals and 310 assists) in 704 career games.
