Jim Foster (American Football)
James Foster is the inventor of the game of Arena Football, (and US patent recipient), the founder and first commissioner of the Arena Football League (AFL). He is also a former National Football League (NFL) and United States Football League (USFL) executive and was later the Managing Owner of both the Iowa Barnstormers and the AF2's Quad City Steamwheelers. Biography Born and raised in Iowa City, Iowa, Foster graduated from the University of Iowa in 1972 with a BGS in advertising/marketing and broadcast journalism, (working on air for UIowa radio stations WSUI and KICR). At Iowa, Foster lettered in track/cross country while also being a member and officer in the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He also served as the paid Executive Director of the overall 22 houses fraternity system at UIowa from 1970-1972 when he graduated. James M. Foster (November 19, 1934 – October 31, 1990) was an American LGBT rights and Democratic Party (United States), Democratic activist. Foster became active in the early gay rights movement when he moved to San Francisco following his blue discharge, undesirable discharge from the United States Army in 1959 for being homosexual.Shilts (1993), p. 168 Foster co-founded the Society for Individual Rights (SIR), an early homophile movement, homophile organization, in 1964. Jim Foster (basketball)
Jim Foster (born October 16, 1948) is the former head coach of the women's college basketball team at Chattanooga. He has previously served as a head coach of the women's basketball team at St. Joseph's, Vanderbilt and Ohio State. He has been elected to the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame as a member of the class of 2013. On February 1, 2018, Foster notched his 900th career win as a head coach, becoming the eighth fastest to reach that mark and tying for seventh in all-time career wins. James Edwin Foster (born August 28, 1950) is a Canadian singer, songwriter, guitarist, and harmonica player. Biography Born in Victoria, British Columbia, Foster is best known for his Canadian singles "X-Ray Eyes" and his work with his band, Fosterchild, which existed from 1976 to 1980. James Thomas Foster (born August 18, 1971) is an American baseball coach and former catcher, who was most recently the head coach of Northwestern Wildcats. He played college baseball for the Providence Friars from 1990 to 1993. He served as the head coach of the Rhode Island Rams (2006–2014) and the Army Black Knights (2017–2022). Early life and playing career Born in Warwick, Rhode Island, Foster attended Bishop Hendricken High School and Providence College and played at catcher on the Providence Friars baseball team under Paul Kostacopoulos, where he was named MVP of the 1992 Big East Conference baseball tournament.
