Jim Burke (author)
James "Jim" Robert Burke (born November 29, 1961, in Sacramento, California) is an American author who resides in San Francisco, California. He taught English at Burlingame High School (California), Burlingame High School until 2019, at which point he began teaching at Middle College High School on the College of San Mateo campus. He retired in June 2022. Writings Burke has written over thirty books on the art of teaching, including ''The Teacher's Daybook'', ''Tools for Thought'', ''Reading Reminders'', and ''Illuminating Texts'', all published by Heinemann, as well as ''The Reader's Handbook'', published by Great Source. Award Burke is the recipient of National Council of Teachers of English's 2000 Exemplary English Leadership Award. James Wallace Burke (12 June 1930 – 2 February 1979) was an Australian cricketer who played in 24 Test matches from 1951 to 1959. Burke holds the record for the most innings in a complete career without scoring a duck, with 44. Early years Burke grew up in the Sydney north shore suburb of Mosman, where his parents had migrated to, from Bromley in Kent, England. His great-uncle Percy Burke had played for Kent as a wicket-keeper. His mother was a talented golfer.Cashman et al., pp. 215–217. Burke was a talented golfer and cricketer in his childhood, but was refused membership of Balgowlah Golf Club at the age of 12 on the grounds that he was too young. He began his cricket training aged seven at Manly Oval. Burke attended Sydney Grammar School and aged 14 played in the First XI. Jim Burke (born 1973 in Manchester, New Hampshire) is an American illustrator, painter, and educator. Burke received his BFA from Syracuse University and his MFA from the University of Hartford. Burke has lectured at Syracuse University, The Norman Rockwell Museum, and the National Baseball Hall of Fame. He formerly instructed painting and illustration at Pratt Institute, and as a visiting artist at Syracuse University. He returned to New Hampshire in Fall of 2009, when appointed Chairperson of the Illustration Department at the New Hampshire Institute of Art. Jim Burke Jr. is an American film producer. Burke, who is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, was a founding member of Rysher Entertainment. He was the President of Ad Hominem Enterprises, a production company he shared with Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor. The company had a first look deal with Fox Searchlight Pictures. He also served as President of Production at Focus Features. On January 24, 2012, he was nominated for an Oscar for the movie ''The Descendants''. In 2019, he won the Academy Award for Best Picture for producing '' Green Book''. Over his career, Burke has been involved with films that have garnered 27 Academy Award nominations and 7 Oscars.
