Jiří Látal
Jiří Látal (born February 2, 1967) is a Czech former professional ice hockey player. He played 92 games in the National Hockey League with the Philadelphia Flyers from 1989 to 1991. The rest of his career, which lasted from 1984 to 1996, was mainly spent in the Czechoslovak First Ice Hockey League and then Czech Extraliga. Internationally he played for the Czechoslovak national team at three World Junior Championships and at the 1989 World Championships, winning a bronze at the latter. Defenceman
Defence or defense (in American English) in ice hockey is a player position that is primarily responsible for preventing the opposing team from Goal (ice hockey), scoring. They are often referred to as defencemen, D, D-men or blueliners (the latter a reference to the blue line in ice hockey which represents the boundary of the offensive zone; defencemen generally position themselves along the line to keep the puck in the zone). They were once called cover-point. In regular play, two defencemen complement three Forward (ice hockey), forwards and a goaltender on the ice. 1989 Ice Hockey World Championships
The 1989 Ice Hockey World Championships took place in Sweden from 15 April – 1 May. The games were played in Södertälje and Stockholm, in the newly built arena Globen. Eight teams took part, and each team played each other once. The four best teams then played each other again. This was the 53rd World Championships, and also the 64th European Championships. The Soviet Union became world champions for the 21st time, and also European champions for the 26th time. The tournament was marred by positive drug tests. Only the goal totals of the Americans were affected in the end. Their losses against the Czechoslovaks and the Canadians were ruled as shutouts because of Corey Millen's high testosterone levels. Canadian Randy Carlyle also came under suspicion, but his A and B samples did not match, and he was cleared of wrongdoing. The Soviet team won all ten of their games. TJ DS Olomouc
HC Olomouc is a professional ice hockey team in the Czech Extraliga, from the city of Olomouc. They won the Extraliga championship in the 1993/1994 season. In 1997, the club sold the Extraliga license to HC Karlovy Vary, and was thus relegated to the second-level league. They returned to the Extraliga in 2014. History On 18 April 2014, they returned to the Extraliga by finishing 2nd in the relegation playoffs. 2014/2015 season started very well and by the end of year, team was on 5th place and even beaten elite team, HC Sparta Praha. But then a rapid fall came and the team fell from 5th place to 13th, thus it had to play play-outs and then relegation play-offs. They ended on 1st place, staying in league with Piráti Chomutov. Penalty (ice Hockey)
A penalty in ice hockey is a punishment for an infringement of the rules. Most penalties are enforced by sending the offending player to a penalty box for a set number of minutes. During the penalty the player may not participate in play. Penalties are called and enforced by the Official (ice hockey)#Referees, referee, or in some cases, the Official (ice hockey)#Linesmen, linesman. The offending team may not replace the player on the ice (although there are some exceptions, such as fighting), leaving them short handed, short-handed as opposed to full strength. When the opposing team is said to be on a ''Power play (ice hockey), power play'', they will have one more player on the ice than the short-handed team. Assist (ice Hockey)
In ice hockey, an assist is attributed to up to two players of the scoring team who shot, passed or deflected the Puck (sports)#In ice hockey, puck towards the scoring teammate, or touched it in any other way which enabled the Goal (ice hockey), goal, meaning that they were "assisting" in the goal. There can be a maximum of two assists per goal. The assists will be awarded in the order of play, with the last player to pass the puck to the goal scorer getting the primary assist and the player who passed it to the primary assister getting the secondary assist. Players who gain an assist will get one point (ice hockey), point added to their player statistics. Goal (ice Hockey)
In ice hockey, a goal is scored when the puck entirely crosses the goal line between the two goal posts and below the goal crossbar. A goal awards one point to the team attacking the goal scored upon, regardless of which team the player who actually deflected the puck into the goal belongs to (see also own goal). Typically, a player on the team attempting to score shoots the puck with their stick towards the goal net opening, and a player on the opposing team called a goaltender tries to block the shot to prevent a goal from being scored against their team.
