The Jewish General Hospital (JGH; french: Hôpital général juif), known officially as the Sir Mortimer B. Davis Jewish General Hospital (french: Hôpital général juif Sir Mortimer B. Davis) since 1978, is an acute-care teaching hospital in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The hospital is affiliated with McGill University and has 637 beds, one of the most of a hospital site in Canada. In 2019, Newsweek ranked the hospital 4th in Canada and 1st in Quebec. Long Island Jewish Forest Hills is a teaching hospital operating under the Northwell Health hospital network. It is located in Forest Hills, Queens, New York. The hospital is affiliated with the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, which sponsors a residency program in internal medicine. The hospital also serves as the host of a podiatry residency program. History The hospital first opened on August 13, 1953 as Forest Hills General Hospital. In May 1963, the Queens District Attorney opened an investigation into the finances of the institution after a former employee reported that the administration of the hospital was involved in a Blue Cross billing scheme. Jewish Maternity Hospital was an obstetrics hospital located at 270–272 East Broadway, on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, New York City. History Jewish Maternity Hospital was chartered in 1906 and opened on February 15, 1909. It catered to the Jewish residents of the Lower East Side, who were the overwhelmingly predominant local population at the time, although expectant mothers of any religion were accepted. In its first 20 years of operation, 31,295 babies were born at Jewish Maternity Hospital. The hospital merged administratively with Beth Israel Hospital on December 19, 1929. Beth Israel was in financial straits because of cost overruns on a new building under construction at Stuyvesant Square, and Jewish Maternity Hospital had money available for their own construction plans.
