Jerauld County, South Dakota
Jerauld County is a county in the U.S. state of South Dakota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 1,663. Its county seat is Wessington Springs. History In 1873, the area occupied by the present Jerauld county was organized into Wetmore County. In 1881, Wetmore and its neighbor county to the south, Cragin County, were combined to form Aurora County. In 1883, the area of the former Wetmore County was reincorporated as present-day Jerauld County. It was named for H. J. Jerauld, a legislator. Geography The terrain of Jerauld County consists of low rolling hills, mostly devoted to agriculture. The terrain slopes to the south and east, with the county's highest point on the west boundary line near its NW corner, at 1,932' (589m) ASL. The county has a total area of , of which is land and (1.2%) is water. Charlotte Ann Fillebrown Jerauld
Charlotte A. Jerauld (, Fillebrown; pen name, Charlotte; April 16, 1820 - August 2, 1845) was an American poet and story writer. A zealous Universalist, she contributed to Christian magazines such as ''Ladies' Repository'', the ''Rose of Sharon'', the ''Universalist Quarterly'', the ''Miscellany'', the ''Union'', and the ''Star of Bethlehem''. Jerauld died in 1845, age 25, after a birth, her dead infant, five days old, buried in the coffin with her. Early life and education Charlotte Ann Fillebrown was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, April 16, 1820 to Richard and Charlotte near Harvard University. Charlotte was nine years old when her father died. In early childhood, the family removed to Boston, where she was educated at the Bowdoin School and the Mayhew School. She showed an early skill for compositions. The teacher thought someone else was writing them on her behalf and she gave her a supervised test to prove it was her work. Dutee Jerauld Pearce
Dutee Jerauld Pearce (April 3, 1789 – May 9, 1849) was an American politician and a United States Representative from Rhode Island. Early life Born on Prudence Island, Pearce graduated from Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island in 1808, and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He studied law and was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Newport, Rhode Island. Career Pearce held various local offices including Attorney general of Rhode Island in 1819–1825 and United States district attorney in 1824 and 1825. He served as member of the Rhode Island House of Representatives. Pearce was elected as an Adams candidate to the Nineteenth and Twentieth Congresses; as an Anti-Jacksonian to the Twenty-first and Twenty-second Congresses; and as an Anti-Masonic candidate to the Twenty-third and Twenty-fourth Congresses. Jerauld Wright
Admiral Jerauld Wright (June 4, 1898 – April 27, 1995) was an officer in the United States Navy. He served as the Commander-in-Chief of the United States Atlantic Command (CINCLANT) and the Commander-in-Chief of the United States Atlantic Fleet (CINCLANTFLT), and became the second Supreme Allied Commander Atlantic (SACLANT) for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), from April 1, 1954, to March 1, 1960, serving longer in these three positions than anyone else in history. Following World War I, Wright served as a naval aide for Presidents Calvin Coolidge and Herbert Hoover. A recognized authority on naval gunnery, Wright served in the European and Pacific theaters during World War II, developing expertise in amphibious warfare and coalition warfare planning.
