Jensen Beach High School
Jensen Beach High School (JBHS) is a public high school in Jensen Beach, Florida. History JBHS opened in August 2004 with an enrollment of 1100 students in grades 9 through 11. A senior class was added the following year. It was an open choice school for several years but only accepted local students for some time. Starting in 2021 they made the change to become open choice again. The building complex is spread over , which includes of mitigated wetlands. During the summer of 2013, the original principal, Ginger Featherstone, was promoted to the district position of Director of Secondary, Adult, and Community Vocational Programs. In the summer of 2015, the second principal, Greg Laws, retired citing personal health reasons. The current principal is Lori Vogel. Recognition The school is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). It has been an "A" school for five straight years. Jensen Beach is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Martin County, Florida, United States. The population was 12,652 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Port St. Lucie, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The history of Jensen Beach in the 19th century revolved around pineapple farming. John Laurence Jensen, an immigrant from Denmark, arrived in 1881, and set up his pineapple plantation, which became the town of Jensen. By 1894, the Florida East Coast Railway reached Jensen Beach, and freight shipments were loaded directly onto the freight cars. By 1895, Jensen was called the "Pineapple Capital of the World", shipping over one million boxes of pineapples each year during the June and July season. Mitigation banking is the preservation, enhancement, restoration or creation (PERC) of a wetland, stream, or habitat conservation area which offsets, or compensates for, expected adverse impacts to similar nearby ecosystems. Positive behavior support (PBS) uses a combination of tools from Applied behaviour Analysis and combines it with the values from the 'normalisation and social role valorisation theory' to focus on improving Quality of life.
