Jean-Louis d'Anglebermes (born 17 July 1953) is a New Caledonian politician. He is a pro-independence ethnic Kanak from Caledonian Union. Since 2014, he has served as a member of the collegial government. Gilbert Tyuiénon (born 28 March 1958) is a New Caledonian politician. He is a pro-independence ethnic Kanak. Tyuiénon-was elected Vice President of New Caledonia on 11 March 2011 in the collegial cabinet of Harold Martin and held that position until 5 June 2014. As of 2018, he continues to be a member of the collegial government. He was reelected as Vice President of New Caledonia on 9 July 2019 in the cabinet of Thierry Santa. He left office on 22 July 2021. Nouméa () is the capital and largest city of the French special collectivity of New Caledonia and is also the largest francophone city in Oceania. Kanak People
The Kanak ( French spelling until 1984: Canaque) are the indigenous Melanesian inhabitants of New Caledonia, an overseas collectivity of France in the southwest Pacific. According to the 2019 census, the Kanak make up 41.2% of New Caledonia's total population — corresponding to around 112,000 people. The Kanak population is traditionally contrasted with two other groups of European descent: (1) the Caldoche, who were born in New Caledonia; and (2) the Zoreille, who live in the territory yet were born in metropolitan France. The earliest traces of human settlement in New Caledonia go back to Lapita culture, about 3000 BP, i.e. 1000 BCE. Philippe Germain is a French politician who served as President of the Government of New Caledonia from 2015 to 2019. He was elected to the presidency on 1 April 2015 with a five-year mandate.
