Jay Ross (American Football)
Jay Randall Ross (born October 3, 1987) is an American football nose tackle. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the New Orleans Saints in 2010. He played college football at East Carolina University. Professional career New Orleans Saints Following the conclusion of the 2010 NFL Draft on April 26, 2010, the New Orleans Saints signed Ross to a contract. Ross was released by the team during the final roster cuts prior to the start of the season on September 4, 2010. Nose Tackle
A defensive tackle (DT) is a position in American football that will typically line up on the line of scrimmage, opposite one of the offensive guards, however he may also line up opposite one of the tackles. Defensive tackles are typically the largest and strongest of the defensive players. Depending on a team's individual defensive scheme, a defensive tackle may be called upon to fill several different roles. These roles may include merely holding the point of attack by refusing to be moved, or penetrating a certain gap between offensive linemen to break up a play in the opponent's backfield. If a defensive tackle reads a pass play, his primary responsibility is to pursue the quarterback, or simply knock the pass down at the line if it is within arm's reach. The 2010 NFL Draft was the 75th annual meeting of National Football League (NFL) franchises to select newly eligible football players. The 2010 draft took place over three days, at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, New York, with the first round on April 22, 2010.
