Javier Aguirre (film Director)
Javier Aguirre Fernández (13 June 1935 – 4 December 2019) was a Spanish film director, writer and producer. Biography and career Aguirre was born in Donostia-San Sebastián in Spain. Aguirre developed an interest in film at an early age. When he was a teenager, he started collaborating for entertainment magazines like ''Radiocinema'', '' Film Ideal'', and others. In 1955, when he was around 20 years old, he founded and directed the San Sebastián Film Club. From 1956 to 1957, Aguirre organized film courses and film festivals. During those years, he also studied at the Instituto de Investigaciones y Experiencias Cinematográficas (IIEC). He worked as an assistant director until he started directing his own short films in the 1960s. He started his work as a director in 1961, directing a documentary short titled ''Pasajes tres'', which received the Golden Shell at the San Sebastián International Film Festival. The San Sebastián International Film Festival ( SSIFF; es, Festival Internacional de San Sebastián, eu, Donostia Zinemaldia) is an annual FIAPF A category film festival held in the Spanish city of Donostia-San Sebastián in September, in the Basque Country. ''Count Dracula's Great Love'' (Spanish: ''El gran amor del conde Drácula'') is a 1972 Spanish film directed by Javier Aguirre, and starring Paul Naschy as Count Dracula. The film also features Rosanna Yanni, Haydee Politoff (whom Naschy did not like working with), Mirta Miller and Ingrid Garbo. The film was shot in 1972, but took about a year to be released anywhere. It first premiered in April 1973 at the Paris Festival of Fantastic Films, along with Naschy's ''Hunchback of the Morgue'', and then was released in Spain on May 12, 1973. It was released to U.S. theaters in March 1974 as ''Dracula's Great Love'' (on a double bill with ''The Vampires' Night Orgy''), then re-released later in 1979 by Motion Picture Marketing under the title ''Cemetery Girls'' (the poster emphasizing the film's adult content and indicating nothing of its star Paul Naschy or Spanish origin). Paul Naschy
Paul Naschy (born Jacinto Molina Álvarez, September 6, 1934 – November 30, 2009) was a Spanish film actor, screenwriter, and director working primarily in horror films. His portrayals of numerous classic horror figures— The Wolfman, Frankenstein's monster, Count Dracula, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Fu Manchu and a mummy—earned him recognition as the Spanish Lon Chaney. Naschy also starred in dozens of action films, historical dramas, crime films, TV shows and documentaries. He also wrote the screenplays for most of his films and directed a number of them as well, signing many of them "Jacinto Molina". The Golden Shell ( es, Concha de Oro; eu, Urrezko Maskorra) is the highest prize given to a competing film at the San Sebastián Film Festival. It was introduced in 1957. In 1953 and 1954, the highest prize had been called the Gran Premio. In 1955 and 1956 it was replaced by the Silver Shell.
