Jason Mbote
Jason Mbote (born 5 January 1977) is a Kenyan athlete who specializes in long distance, especially half marathon and marathon distances. On 4 May 2003 Mbote won the 25 km in Berlin in a time of 1:15.07. In 2005 he was just one second behind his compatriot Robert Cheboror(1:03.36) in the Egmond Half Marathon. Later that year he won the Great Scottish Run in Glasgow (21.1 km) and was second in the Frankfurt Marathon in 2:08.30. In 2006, Jason triumphed with a victory at the Zwolle Half Marathon in a time of 1:02.24. In 2006 he was also second in the Seoul International Marathon in March and won the JoongAng Seoul Marathon in November. Jason ( ; ) was an ancient Greek mythological hero and leader of the Argonauts, whose quest for the Golden Fleece featured in Greek literature. He was the son of Aeson, the rightful king of Iolcos. He was married to the sorceress Medea. He was also the great-grandson of the messenger god Hermes, through his mother's side. Half Marathon
A half marathon is a road running event of —half the distance of a marathon. It is common for a half marathon event to be held concurrently with a marathon or a 5K race, using almost the same course with a late start, an early finish or shortcuts. If finisher medals are awarded, the medal or ribbon may differ from those for the full marathon. The marathon is a long-distance foot race with a distance of , usually run as a road race, but the distance can be covered on trail routes. Robert Cheboror
Robert Cheboror (born 1978 in Kipsaos, Keiyo District) is a Kenyan long-distance runner who specializes in the marathon. Biography He won the Lille Métropole Half Marathon in 2002, setting a personal best of 1:01:42 for the half marathon distance. At the Berlin Half Marathon the following year, Cheboror came near his best with a run of 1:01:55 for second behind Paul Kirui. He acted as the pacemaker for the 2003 Amsterdam Marathon and he continued running past the usual 35 km drop-out mark, eventually finishing in ninth place to record his first marathon finish in a time of 2:11:06. He finished in third place at the inaugural Rotterdam Half Marathon event, crossing the line in 1:02:31. Egmond Half Marathon
The Egmond Half Marathon ( nl, Egmond Halve Marathon) is an annual half marathon race over 21.1 kilometres that has been staged in Egmond aan Zee, Netherlands since 1973. The competition normally takes place in early January. Sections of the road race cross along the beach and sand dunes of the village, situated on the North Sea coast. The 2010 edition of the race was cancelled due to poor weather conditions, marking the first break in the race's history. In addition to the elite level races, the event features recreational fun runs for the public, including a team race for friends or colleagues. Great Scottish Run
The Great Scottish Run is a series of mass-participation road running events, held annually in the streets of Glasgow, Scotland in October. The event began as a full marathon in 1979, but later changed to a weekend of shorter events. The weekend now includes short events for children, a 10K roadrace, and a half marathon. The 2013 event, which was sponsored by the Bank of Scotland, featured over 30,000 competitors. It is the largest mass-participation sporting event in Scotland.
