Jasenov, Humenné District
Jasenov is a village and municipality in Humenné District in the Prešov Region of north-east Slovakia. History In historical records the village was first mentioned in 1279. Jasenov has a castle that dates from the mid-14th century, when it was owned by Phillip Drugeth. It was later destroyed in 1644. Geography The municipality lies at an altitude of 155 metres and covers an area of 13.262 km². It has a population of about 1140 people. Jasenov Castle
Jasenov Castle ( Slovak ''Jasenovský hrad'', Hungarian ''Jeszenő vára'') is a ruined Gothic and Renaissance era stone castle above the village of Jasenov in Humenné District, Prešov Region, in east Slovakia. It is a hilltop castle located on a fairly steep, roughly cone-shaped hill with a limestone bedrock, in an altitude of approximately 392 m (1286.08 ft) above sea level. The eponymous village at the foot of the castle hill was founded as an adjoined castle settlement, similarly to several other villages in the region. Jasenov and Jasenov Castle lie in the traditional region of Zemplín. The castle is listed in the National Cultural Heritage list of the Monuments Board of the Slovak Republic. Jasenová
Jasenová ( hu, Jaszenova) is a village and municipality in Dolný Kubín District in the Zilina Region of northern Slovakia. It has population of 401 people. Its name comes from the Slovak word Jaseň, which is a kind of tree often found in the area. There is a church built in 1836 and an old elementary school from the 19th century. A hill named Choč (altitude 1611 m) can be seen from the village. History Before the establishment of independent Czechoslovakia in 1918, Jasenová was part of Árva County within the Kingdom of Hungary. From 1939 to 1945, it was part of the Slovak Republic.
