''Jangal-e Asfalt'' ( fa, جنگل آسفالت, translit=, lit=The Asphalt Jungle) is the debut studio album by Iranian rapper Hichkas, released unauthorized and underground on 1 October 2006. Written by Hichkas and produced by Mahdyar Aghajani, it is considered as the first professional Iranian hip hop album. Background The album was composed by Mahdyar Aghajani who was 18 at the time. This album is a combination of hip hop and traditional Iranian music (for example Persian instruments were used). Three tracks of this album have been performed in English with the collaboration of Reveal, a British rapper of Iranian descent. Composition The album was originally released in 2006 in Iran. Hichkas
Soroush Lashkari ( fa, سروش لشکری; born 9 May 1985), known professionally as Hichkas ( fa, هیچ‌کس), is an Iranian rapper, singer, and songwriter. Credited with popularizing Persian hip hop to the Iranian people and other Persian-speaking countries such as Afghanistan and Tajikistan, Hichkas's national success and acclaimed works are widely regarded as having broken the barriers that were in place by the Islamic regime for the acceptance of rappers in popular music. Hichkas is considered one of the pioneers of Iranian hip hop and is nicknamed "Father of Persian Rap" by his fans. He became a representation of the Iranian underclass and reflected the angst of the young Iranians. Mahdyar Aghajani ( fa, مهدیار آقاجانی; born 22 January 1989) is a musician, record producer and composer born and raised in Tehran, Iran. He raised the standard of Iranian underground music, using Persian traditional instruments (such as oud, santoor, daf, tombak, ney, kamancheh and qanoon) in electronic and hip hop music. Career In 2005 Hichkas released the first Iranian hip hop album ''Jangale Asfalt (The Asphalt Jungle)''.
