Janelle Commissiong
Janelle "Penny" Commissiong, TC (born June 15, 1953) is a Trinidadian politician, model and beauty queen who was crowned Miss Universe 1977. Biography She studied at Bishop Anstey High School. migrated to the United States at the age of 13, and returned to Trinidad and Tobago ten years later. After winning the Miss Trinidad and Tobago Universe title, she went on to be crowned Miss Universe 1977 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and in the process became the first black woman to win the prestigious pageant crown. After winning the title, she was most commonly known as 'Penny' because she was small as a penny. In New York City, she studied fashion at the Fashion Institute of Technology, but returned to Port of Spain in 1976. Trinity Cross
The Trinity Cross (abbreviated T.C.) was the highest of the National Awards of Trinidad and Tobago, between the years 1969 and 2008. It was awarded for: "distinguished and outstanding service to Trinidad and Tobago. It was awarded for gallantry in the face of the enemy, or for gallant conduct." Either nationals or non-nationals were awarded the honour, but no more than five may have been awarded in any year. The President was awarded the Trinity Cross in an ''ex officio'' capacity. The award was first presented in 1969, last conferred in 2005, and was subsequently replaced by The Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (abbreviated O.R.T.T.) in the year 2008. Giselle Jeanne-Marie Laronde-West (born October 23, 1963) is a Trinidadian model and beauty queen who won the Miss World 1986 contest, representing Trinidad and Tobago. Kimberly Louise Tomes (born August 20, 1955) is a beauty queen from Texas who has held Miss USA title. Tomes won the Miss Texas USA title in 1976 and later represented Texas in the Miss USA 1977 pageant held in Charleston, South Carolina.
