Jan O'Malley
Jan Chance O'Malley (born 1946) is an American sailor who was named US Sailor of the Year three times: in 1969, 1970, and 1977. Sailing history O'Malley started sailing in wood boats in Barnegat Bay. She won the Mrs. Charles Francis Adams Trophy, the United States' women's national championship, in 1969 and 1970. Both years she sailed with her sister-in-law Patricia O'Malley, with whom she also won the United States' doublehanded championship. In 1977 she won the first women's world sailing championship that was held in England in 1977. O'Malley talked about the challenges of raising kids and competitive sailing in a 1978 article in '' The New York Times''. Barnegat Bay
Barnegat Bay is a small brackish arm of the Atlantic Ocean, approximately long, along the coast of Ocean County, New Jersey in the United States. It is separated from the Atlantic by the long Island Beach State Park (colloquially called a "barrier island"), as well as by the north end of Long Beach Island, popular segments of the Jersey Shore. The bay is fed by several small rivers, including the Toms River, the Forked River, the Metedeconk River, Cedar Creek, Oyster Creek, Mill Creek, the Westecunk Creek and the Tuckerton Creek which empty into the bay through small estuaries along its inner shore. World Sailing (WS) is the world governing body for the sport of sailing recognized by the International Olympic Committee and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). Britton Chance
Britton "Brit" Chance (July 24, 1913 – November 16, 2010) was an American biochemist, biophysicist, scholar, and inventor whose work helped develop spectroscopy as a way to diagnose medical problems. He was "a world leader in transforming theoretical science into useful biomedical and clinical applications" and is considered "the founder of the biomedical photonics." He received the National Medal of Science in 1974. He also was an Olympic athlete who won a gold medal for the United States at the 1952 Summer Olympics in the 5.5 Metre Class.
