James Wills (cricketer)
James Robertson Wills (2 May 1899 – 16 April 1949) was an Irish first-class cricketer. Wills was born at Killala in County Mayo, and was educated at the Masonic Boys' School in Dublin. He later studied at Trinity College, Dublin in 1915, where he joined Dublin University Cricket Club. He made his debut in first-class cricket for Dublin University against Essex at Brentwood on their 1922 tour of England. Following this match, he travelled up to Glasgow to play a first-class match for Ireland against Scotland. He later toured England with Dublin University in 1925 and 1926, playing two further first-class matches, both against Northamptonshire at Northampton. Across his four first-class matches, Wills scored 68 runs, with a highest score of 28. Killala () is a village in County Mayo in Ireland, north of Ballina. The railway line from Dublin to Ballina once extended to Killala. Old County Ground, Brentwood
Old County Ground is a cricket ground in Brentwood, Essex. The first recorded match on the ground was in 1876, when Essex played Suffolk in a non first-class match. Essex played their first first-class match there against Dublin University in 1922. In 1934, Essex returned to the ground where they played Kent in the first County Championship match held at the ground. Essex played 56 further first-class matches there between 1934 and 1969, playing their final first-class match there against Worcestershire. In addition, the ground has also hosted 2 List-A matches, the first of which came in the 1965 Gillette Cup and saw Essex play Derbyshire. The second and final List-A match held there saw Essex play Kent in the 1967 Gillette Cup. Phoenix Cricket Club is a Dublin-based club that currently fields six men's teams, two women's teams, youth teams (for both sexes) in six age bands and an over 40s "Taverners" team. History Phoenix CC is the oldest cricket club in Ireland, founded in 1830, by John Parnell, the father of Charles Stewart Parnell. In cricket, a player's bowling average is the number of runs they have conceded per wicket taken. The lower the bowling average is, the better the bowler is performing. It is one of a number of statistics used to compare bowlers, commonly used alongside the economy rate and the strike rate to judge the overall performance of a bowler. When a bowler has taken only a small number of wickets, their bowling average can be artificially high or low, and unstable, with further wickets taken or runs conceded resulting in large changes to their bowling average. Due to this, qualification restrictions are generally applied when determining which players have the best bowling averages. The County Ground is a cricket venue on Wantage Road in the Abington area of Northampton, England. It is home to Northamptonshire County Cricket Club, and was used by Northampton Town F.C. from 1897 to 1994. Cricket Northamptonshire played their first match at the ground in 1886 before competing in the Minor Counties Championship competition between 1895 and 1904, winning the title three times. They were accepted into the County Championship and played their first first-class match at the ground on 5 June 1905. Northamptonshire drew with Leicestershire in a rain-hit match that only permitted 75 overs of play. Northamptonshire County Cricket Club
Northamptonshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Northamptonshire. Its limited overs team is called the Northants Steelbacks – a reference to the Northamptonshire Regiment which was formed in 1881. The name was supposedly a tribute to the soldiers' apparent indifference to the harsh discipline imposed by their officers.
