James Wheeler (Australian Politician)
James Henry Wheeler, (14 February 1826 – 10 August 1904) was an Australian politician. Wheeler was born in Alfreton, Derbyshire, England, and went to Victoria in 1854; he was an extensive sawmill owner in the Wombat State Forest. He was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly for the Creswick district in November 1864 as a moderate constitutionalist, but retired from Parliament in December 1867. In May 1880, however, he was re-elected, and represented the same constituency till March 1889, when he was returned for the Daylesford district in April 1889. In November 1890, on the formation of the James Munro Ministry, he accepted the post of Minister of Railways, which he continued to hold when in February 1892 the Ministry was reconstructed under William Shiels. Wheeler was member for Daylesford until October 1900. Alfreton
Alfreton ( ) is a town and civil parish in the Amber Valley district of Derbyshire, England. The town was formerly a Norman Manor and later an Urban District. The population of the Alfreton parish was 7,971 at the 2011 Census. The villages of Ironville, Riddings, Somercotes and Swanwick were historically part of the Manor and Urban District, and the population including these was 24,476 in 2001. History Alfreton is said to have been founded by King Alfred and to have derived its name from him. The placename appears in different forms throughout the ages, such as 'Elstretune' in Domesday, but the earliest record appears to occur in CE1004 in the will of Wulfric Spott, the founder of Burton Abbey. Amongst his bequests was 'Aelfredingtune', or 'Alfred's farmstead', which is believed to relate to Alfreton. However, there is no evidence that this Alfred was the aforementioned king. Donald McLeod (Victorian State Politician)
Donald McLeod (1837 – 8 July 1923), was an Australian politician, member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. McLeod was born in Caithness, Scotland and arrived in Australia in 1847. In November 1900 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly for Daylesford, a seat he held until his death. McLeod was Minister without Portfolio from June 1902 to February 1904; Minister of Mines and of Forests from 16 Feb 1904 to 8 January 1909; Minister of Water Supply from March to April 1904, Chief Secretary and Minister of Public Health from November 1915 to November 1917. He was a member of the Railways Electrification committee 1912 and was chairman of the Electricity Supply committee 1922. Richard Richardson (Australian Politician)
Richard Richardson J.P., (c.1825 – 22 September 1913) was a politician in colonial Victoria (Australia), member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. Richardson was born in the Tyneside district, England, and have embraced the profession of a civil engineer, he went to Victoria in 1852, and was for some time in the Roads and Bridges department of the Government service. After spending a year or two in Sydney, he, in 1854, settled as a farmer in the Creswick district of Victoria. In 1874 he entered the Assembly as a member for the Electoral district of Creswick, and held the seat till 1886 when he was defeated at the general election. He was, however, re-elected when the district was resized to a single-member electorate in 1889. Mr. Richardson, who was a Liberal and Protectionist, was Minister of Lands and Agriculture in the third Graham Berry Government from August 1880 to July 1881. William Anderson (23 December 1853 – 3 May 1898), was a politician in colonial Victoria (Australia), member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly for Creswick, and later Windermere. He was also the fourth Chief President of the Australian Natives' Association. Early Years Anderson was born in Dean near Creswick in 1853. His father, James Anderson, was born in Cumnock, Scotland, and was a partner in the family business of Anderson Brothers, with saw-milling, landed and mining interests, which William Anderson inherited. He was educated to secondary level at Ballarat College. He married Helen Glover Naples on 23 March 1882; they had eight children. The eldest, Albert Naples Anderson, was killed in action with the 8th Light Horse in Egypt in April 1917 after being wounded, repatriated, and returned to the conflict.
