James Stopford, 1st Earl Of Courtown
James Stopford, 1st Earl of Courtown (1700 – 12 January 1770) was an Irish politician. Courtown was the son of James Stopford, of Courtown, County Wexford, who represented Wexford County in the Irish House of Commons, and his wife Frances (née Jones). He succeeded his father as member of parliament for Wexford County in 1721, a seat he held until 1727, and then represented Fethard (County Wexford) from 1727 to 1758. In 1756 he was appointed High Sheriff of Wexford. In 1758 he was raised to the Peerage of Ireland as Baron Courtown, of Courtown in the County of Wexford. Four years later he was further honoured when he was made Viscount Stopford and Earl of Courtown, in the County of Wexford, also in the Peerage of Ireland. Family Lord Courtown married Elizabeth, daughter of the Right Reverend Edward Smyth, Bishop of Down and Connor, and his first wife and cousin Elizabeth Smyth, in 1727. Earl Of Courtown
The Earl of Courtown, in the County of Wexford, is a title in the Peerage of Ireland. It was created on 12 April 1762 for James Stopford, 1st Baron Courtown. He had previously represented County Wexford and Fethard in the Irish House of Commons. Stopford had already been created Baron Courtown, of Courtown in the County of Wexford, on 19 September 1758, and was made Viscount Stopford at the same time he was given the earldom. These titles are also in the Peerage of Ireland. He was succeeded by his eldest son, the second Earl. He was a Tory politician and served under William Pitt the Younger as Treasurer of the Household from 1784 to 1793. On 7 June 1796 he was created Baron Saltersford, of Saltersford in the County Palatine of Chester, in the Peerage of Great Britain. Nicholas Hume-Loftus, 2nd Earl Of Ely
Nicholas Hume-Loftus, 2nd Earl of Ely (11 September 1738 – 12 November 1769) was an Anglo-Irish peer, briefly styled Viscount Loftus in October 1766. He represented the constituency of Fethard (County Wexford) (Parliament of Ireland constituency), Fethard, County Wexford in the Parliament of Ireland from 1759 to 1766. He was the subject of a notorious legal case regarding his mental capabilities. Family members testified that he was of normal intelligence, and that any eccentric behaviour should be blamed on his father's ill-treatment of him. He became Earl of Ely on the death of his father, Nicholas Hume-Loftus, 1st Earl of Ely, in 1766, and assumed his seat in the Irish House of Lords. When he died the earldom became extinct but his other titles were inherited by his uncle. Charles Tottenham (1716–1795)
Charles Tottenham (1716 – 10 September 1795) was an Irish Member of Parliament. He sat in the Irish House of Commons for Fethard from 1755 to 1760, for New Ross from 1761 to 1768, for Bannow from 1768 to 1776, for Clonmines from 1776 to 1790 and again for Fethard from 1790 to his death. He was a younger son of Charles Tottenham and his first wife Ellinor Cliffe, daughter of John Cliffe of Mulrankin, County Wexford and Barbara Carr, and younger brother of Sir John Tottenham, 1st Baronet, who married a daughter of Nicholas Loftus, 1st Viscount Loftus and was father of Charles Loftus, 1st Marquess of Ely. Charles also married a daughter of the 1st Viscount Loftus, Anne (born 8 November 1718, died 10 November 1768).
