James Paterson (25 January 1889 – 21 August 1966) was a New Zealand cricketer. He played first-class cricket for Auckland, Canterbury and Hawke's Bay between 1912 and 1923. James Paterson (journalist)
James Paterson (18 May 1805 – 6 May 1876) was a Scottish journalist on numerous newspapers, writer and antiquary. His works are popular history, rather than scholarly. Life He was the son of James Paterson, farmer at Struthers, Ayrshire, where he was born on 18 May 1805; his father then had money troubles and gave up his farm. Paterson received an education, and then was apprenticed to a printer at the office of the Kilmarnock ''Mirror''. Subsequently he was transferred to the ''Courier'' office in Ayr. On completing his apprenticeship, Paterson went to Glasgow, where he joined the ''Scots Times''. In 1826 he returned to Kilmarnock, took a shop as stationer and printer, and in partnership with other gentlemen started the Kilmarnock ''Chronicle''. Its first number appeared on 4 May 1831, during the agitation for the Great Reform Bill, and the paper closed in May 1832. Society Of The United Scotsmen
The Society of the United Scotsmen was an organisation formed in Scotland in the late 18th century and sought widespread political reform throughout Great Britain. It grew out of previous radical movements such as the ''Friends of the People Society'', and was inspired by the events of the French and American revolutions. Their aims were largely the same as those of the ''Society of the United Irishmen''. Societies of United Scotsmen had existed from the early 1790s, but it was only upon a delegation of United Irishmen arriving in Scotland to muster support for their cause that the United Scotsmen became more organised and more overtly revolutionary. The United Scotsmen were particularly adept at gaining support from the working classes of Scotland who stood to gain by becoming politically enfranchised, as the Society sought. James William Paterson (born 21 November 1987) is an Australian politician who has been a Senator for Victoria since 2016, representing the Liberal Party. He was appointed to Peter Dutton's shadow ministry following the Coalition's defeat at the 2022 federal election. Early life Paterson was born in Melbourne on 21 November 1987. He attended what he described as a "hippie" school in Melbourne's outer suburbs, and also briefly attended an elementary school in Washington, D.C., while his mother undertook an academic exchange. He completed high school at McKinnon Secondary College. Paterson completed the degrees of Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Melbourne. James Paterson (New Zealand Politician)
James Paterson (1807 – 29 July 1886) was a 19th-century Member of Parliament in Otago, New Zealand. He was a cabinet minister, and on the Legislative Council. Paterson was born in Edinburgh in 1807. He lived in British Guiana for 14 years and by the early 1850s, he had returned to Edinburgh. He met George Ross, one of Dunedin's first settlers, who had come back to Edinburgh to have a ship built for him. Paterson emigrated to Dunedin on that ship, the ''Clutha'', and reached Dunedin on 12 February 1854. He was a merchant in Dunedin and went into partnership with George Hepburn, and together they bought out the business of James Macandrew. Paterson was first elected onto the Otago Provincial Council for the Town of Dunedin electorate on 2 October 1861 and served for the remainder of the third council, and for all of the fourth council until 10 January 1867. James Paterson PRSW RSA RWS (21 August 1854 – 25 January 1932), was a Scottish landscape and portrait painter associated with The Glasgow Boys movement of artists. He is best known for his landscape paintings of Dumfriesshire, where he lived, at Moniaive from 1885 to 1905. Life James Paterson was born at Blantyre, near Glasgow on 21 August 1854, the eldest son of Andrew Paterson (1819-1907) and his wife Margaret Hunter (1817-1901). The Hunter family were sewed muslin manufacturers in Glasgow. When his father was orphaned at nineteen his uncle James Hunter appointed him a foreman in his warehouse and took him into partnership two years later at the early age of twenty-one. James Hamilton-Paterson (born 6 November 1941) is a poet and novelist. He is one of the most reclusive of British literary exiles, dividing his time between Austria, Italy and the Philippines. Early life James Hamilton-Paterson was born on 6 November 1941 in London, England. His father was a neurosurgeon who treated the Aga Khan and provided the inspiration for the poem "Disease", for which Hamilton-Paterson was awarded the Newdigate Prize. He was educated at Windlesham House, Sussex, Bickley Hall, Kent, King's School, Canterbury and Exeter College, Oxford. Having worked as a hospital orderly at St. Stephen's Hospital between 1966–1968, Paterson earned his first break as a writer in 1969, when he began working as a reporter for the ''New Statesman''.
