James Nash (musician)
James Nash (born June 14, 1973) is an American guitarist and singer best known for his work with the band the Waybacks. Career Nash has performed with self-described "acoustic mayhem" quartet the Waybacks since 1999, performing at venues such as the Kennedy Center, Ryman Auditorium, Old Town School of Music, the Warfield, the Fillmore, and the Bumbershoot and Wakarusa festivals. He has performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra at the Mann Center, with the Chattanooga Symphony, and with artists such as Bob Weir, Joan Osborne, Sam Bush, Rodney Crowell, and Jens Kruger. In 2017, Nash was named one of the 50 best acoustic guitarists of all time by '' Guitar Player''. He is an Artist Ambassador for the Santa Cruz Guitar Company. Style Nash blends bluegrass, swing, country, jazz, and experimental rock influences, and is known for adapting solid body electric guitar techniques to the traditional steel-string acoustic guitar. The Santa Cruz Guitar Company is an American manufacturer of acoustic guitars, located in Santa Cruz, California. The company was started in 1976 by luthier Richard B. Hoover, who is reputed to have "trained some of the most accomplished contemporary luthiers in his workshop", and investors Bruce Ross and William Davis. Gillian Howard Welch (; born October 2, 1967) is an American singer-songwriter. She performs with her musical partner, guitarist David Rawlings. Michael Alden Hedges (December 31, 1953 – December 2, 1997) was an American acoustic guitarist and songwriter. Early years The son of Thayne Alden Hedges and Ruth Evelyn Hedges Ipsen, Michael Hedges was born in Sacramento, California. His life in music began in Enid, Oklahoma, playing flute and guitar. He enrolled at Phillips University in Enid to study classical guitar and composition under E. J. Ulrich, who Hedges credited as his biggest influence from his academic training. Hedges studied as a composition major at Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, Maryland where he applied his classical background to steel-string acoustic guitar, also studying electronic music. Hedges made a living by playing and singing in bars and restaurants in Baltimore while a student at Peabody. Django Reinhardt
Jean Reinhardt (23 January 1910 – 16 May 1953), known by his Romani nickname Django ( or ), was a Romani-French jazz guitarist and composer. He was one of the first major jazz talents to emerge in Europe and has been hailed as one of its most significant exponents. With violinist Stéphane Grappelli, Reinhardt formed the Paris-based Quintette du Hot Club de France in 1934. The group was among the first to play jazz that featured the guitar as a lead instrument. Chester Burton Atkins (June 20, 1924 – June 30, 2001), known as "Mr. Guitar" and "The Country Gentleman", was an American musician who, along with Owen Bradley and Bob Ferguson, helped create the Nashville sound, the country music style which expanded its appeal to adult pop music fans. Homespun Music Instruction
Homespun offers music instruction for many instruments and styles on CD, DVD and streaming media. History Happy Traum's inspiration for Homespun came in 1967, when he was a musician and part-time guitar teacher in New York City. When he moved to Woodstock, New York and began to tour with his brother Artie Traum, he made tapes (based on his 1965 book ''Fingerpicking Styles for Guitar'') for his guitar students to use when he was unavailable. He also received letters from others who wanted to learn to play, so he made more tapes and sold them via classified advertisements in ''Guitar Player'', ''Rolling Stone'', and ''Sing Out!'' magazines.
