James Joy Miller (May 26, 1886 – December 31, 1965) was an American football player. Biography Miller was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1886. His father, James G. Miller, was the secretary of the Union Depot Railroad in Detroit. Miller attended Detroit Central High School where he won varsity letters in football, baseball and basketball. The ''Detroit Free Press'' called him "one of the best known athletes Detroit ever has turned out." Miller was considered one of Detroit's best basketball players on defense and played end for Detroit Central's football team. James Gegan Miller
James (Jim) Gegan Miller is an American physicist, engineer, and inventor whose primary interests center around biomedical physics. He is currently a professor of physics, Medicine, and Biomedical Engineering, emeritus, at Washington University in St. Louis, where he holds the Albert G. Hill, Albert Gordon Hill Endowed Chair in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. He is notable for his interdisciplinary contributions to biomedical physics, echocardiography, and Ultrasound, ultrasonics. James Douglas Miller FRSE (20 July 1937 – 23 August 1995) was a Scottish neurosurgeon of international repute. The Douglas Miller Memorial Lecture is named in his honour. Life He was born in Glasgow on 20 July 1937. His father was an executive at Collins the publisher. He was educated at Glasgow Academy then studied medicine at the University of Glasgow graduating with an MB ChB. Meeting Bryan Jennett he was inspired to be a neurosurgeon. James Miller FRCSEd, FRSE (2 April 1812 – 17 June 1864) was a surgeon and medical author in Edinburgh. He was author of the important 19th century textbook, ''Principles of Surgery''. Like his father he became a member of the Free Church of Scotland in 1843 and was a firm believer in temperance. Life He was born on 2 April 1812 in the manse of Eassie in Angus, the son of Rev James Miller (1777–1860) and Barbara Martin. He studied Medicine at both St Andrews University and Edinburgh University. From 1832 to 1834 he served as assistant to Robert Liston, taking over his practice in 1834. He continued this until 1842 then took up the role of Professor of Surgery at Edinburgh University. At the same time he acted as principal surgeon to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. Sir James Miller (16 March 190520 March 1977) was a Scottish businessman and politician, who served as Lord Provost of Edinburgh and Lord Mayor of London. As an architect, engineer and house-builder he founded the firm Miller Homes in 1934. Life He was born on 16 March 1905 the son of James Miller an Edinburgh architect. The family lived at 32 Bellevue Road at this time. He was educated at George Heriot's School. He then trained as an architect under his father. In 1925 he undertook his first design-build project after a developer withdrew from a project. In 1934, continuing in this vein, he formed James Miller & Partners with his brothers, which eventually was rebranded as Miller Homes. In 1936 he became a town councillor in Edinburgh and in 1947 was City Treasurer. In post-war Britain his company expanded to cover all sections of the country.
