James McClure (Northern Ireland Politician)
William James McClure MBE (15 June 1926 – 3 August 2014) was a Unionist politician based in Coleraine, Northern Ireland, who served as President of the Democratic Unionist Party. McClure died on 3 August 2014 at the age of 88. McClure was first elected in 1975 to the Northern Ireland Constitutional Convention representing Londonderry. He was elected to the Northern Ireland Assembly in 1982 for the same constituency. In 1977 he was elected to Coleraine Borough Council and remained a member until his death, serving as Mayor from 1983–84, and from 1997–99, and as Deputy Mayor from 1982–83, 1985–93, and 2004–05. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female. There is also the related British Empire Medal, whose recipients are affiliated with, but not members of, the order. Recommendations for appointments to the Order of the British Empire were originally made on the nomination of the United Kingdom, the self-governing Dominions of the Empire (later Commonwealth) and the Viceroy of India. Norman Hillis
Cllr Norman Hillis is an Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) politician from Northern Ireland, who was a Member of the Northern Ireland Assembly (MLA) for East Londonderry from 2003 to 2007. Hillis was educated at Coleraine Academical Institution and the former Coleraine Technical College and has been active in the business community of Portrush where he has been president of the resort's Chamber of Commerce and Coleraine Lions Club. He is a UUP councillor on Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council (Formerly Coleraine Borough Council) elected in 1993, and was Mayor of Coleraine from 1999 to 2000, and from 2010–11. Hillis was elected as a member for the Northern Ireland Assembly constituency of East Londonderry but lost his seat in the 2007 election. Maurice Morrow
Maurice George Morrow, Baron Morrow (born 27 September 1948) is a Unionist politician from Northern Ireland representing the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) who has been Chairman of the DUP since 2000. He was made a life peer in June 2006. He was also a councillor on Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council representing Dungannon Town. He was educated at Ballygawley Primary School, Dungannon Secondary and Dungannon Technical College, following which he pursued a career as an estate agent. His political career began in 1973 when he was elected to Fermanagh District Council. He served as a MLA of the Northern Ireland Assembly from 1998, until losing his seat in 2017. In July 2000 he became Minister for Social Development in the Northern Ireland Executive, a position held until October 2001, during which time he was credited with implementing policies recognising the needs of the elderly, the farming community and introduced new measures to tackle welfare fraud. William Beattie (politician)
William John Beattie (born 21 September 1942) is a former minister of religion and Unionist politician in Northern Ireland. Beattie grew up in Ballymena. In 1965, he became a student minister at the Dunmurry Free Presbyterian Church, and in 1967 he became a full minister in the Church, led by Ian Paisley. He also joined Paisley's Protestant Unionist Party (PUP), and became the deputy leader. In 1970, Beattie was elected to the Northern Ireland House of Commons in a by-election in South Antrim. On the same day, Paisley was elected for Bannside, and the two became the PUP's first Members of Parliament. Beattie stood for Belfast North in the 1970 general election, but came a distant third, behind the Ulster Unionist and Labour candidates. In 1971, the PUP formed the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), and Beattie retained his post as deputy leader.
