James McCarthy (bishop)
James William McCarthy (30 January 1853 – 24 December 1943) was a Roman Catholic clergyman who served as Bishop of Galloway in Scotland from 1914 to 1943. Born in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, on 30 January 1853, he was educated at St Mary's College, Blairs 1869-1872; Royal Scots College, Valladolid 1872-1876 and St Peter's Seminary 1876-1879. He was ordained to the priesthood in Glasgow on 4 May 1879. He was curate at Our Lady and St Margaret's, Kinning Park 1879-1884 and parish priest of St John's, Port Glasgow 1884-1899. He was parish priest of St Mary Immaculate, Pollokshaws 1899-1900 and administrator of St Andrew's Cathedral, Glasgow 1900-1914. He was appointed as Bishop of the Diocese of Galloway by the Holy See on 25 May 1914, and consecrated to the Episcopate on 9 June 1914. James McCarthy (footballer)
James Patrick McCarthy (born 12 November 1990) is a professional footballer who plays as a central midfielder for Scottish Premiership club Celtic. Born in Scotland, he represents the Republic of Ireland national team. McCarthy made over 100 appearances for Hamilton Academical as a teenager, before being transferred to Wigan Athletic in 2009 for an initial £1.2 million which was a record sale fee for Hamilton Academical. After winning the FA Cup with Wigan in 2013 he moved to Everton, suffering from various injuries including a broken leg in 2018 which ruled him out for over a year. James J. McCarthy (January 25, 1944 – December 11, 2019) was a Professor of Biological Oceanography at Harvard and was president of the American Association for the Advancement of Science from February 2008 to February 2009. McCarthy was the Alexander Agassiz Professor of Biological Oceanography in the Department of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology and former Master of Pforzheimer House. He was also Acting Curator of the Malacology Department in the Museum of Comparative Zoology. His studies addressed factors that regulate the processes of primary production and nutrient supply in upper ocean, approached using controlled laboratory studies and field investigations. James McCarthy (born 5 January 1999) is a Welsh rugby union player who plays as a wing or fullback. Early life McCarthy was born in Newport, Wales to an Irish father and a Welsh mother. He attended Caerleon Comprehensive School and Newport High School. He had been part of the Bristol Rovers academy and began playing rugby union aged 12, going on to represent Wales at under-18 schools level and scoring two tries in their win against Ireland under-18 schools in 2017, as well as being a member of the Newport Gwent Dragons academy. James Joseph McCarthy
James Joseph McCarthy was an Irish architect famous for his design of ecclesiastical buildings. McCarthy was born in Dublin, Ireland on 6 January 1817. His parents were from County Kerry. He was educated by the Christian Brothers in Richmond St., and went on to study architecture at the Royal Dublin Society School. He was a follower of the style of the architect Pugin and Gothic Revival. McCarthy served as Professor of Ecclesiastical Architecture at All Hallows College, Dublin. He was also appointed Professor of Architecture at the Catholic University of Ireland and at the Royal Hibernian Academy. McCarthy was a friend of Dr. Bartholomew Woodlock, who had been rector of both All Hallows' and the Catholic University, and he helped Woodlock to found the Irish Ecclesiological Society in 1849.
