James Irwin
James Benson Irwin (March 17, 1930 – August 8, 1991) was an American astronaut, aeronautical engineer, test pilot, and a United States Air Force pilot. He served as Apollo Lunar Module pilot for Apollo 15, the fourth human lunar landing. He was the eighth person to walk on the Moon and the first, and youngest, of those astronauts to die. Early life and education Irwin was born March 17, 1930, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, of Scottish and Irish descent, to parents James William Irwin (1896–1979), a U.S. Army World War I veteran, and Elsa Mathilda Irwin (; 1899–1993). Irwin's grandparents emigrated to the U.S. from Altmore Parish at Pomeroy in County Tyrone, Ireland (now Northern Ireland) around 1859. At about the age of 12, he informed his mother about his desire to go to the Moon, letting her know that he might be the first person to do so (he ended up being the eighth). Major-General Sir James Murray Irwin (13 February 1858 – 7 November 1938) was a British physician. He served as a British Army doctor in Sudan, the Second Boer War and World War I. Early life He was born in Manorcunningham, County Donegal, Ireland. In 1875, he studied medicine at Trinity College Dublin. Career Irwin joined the Royal Army Medical Corps at Netley in 1881 and was commissioned as surgeon captain posted to Dublin in February 1882. He was posted to India in September 1883. James Alexander Hamilton Irwin (1876–1954) was an Irish Presbyterian minister and a supporter of Irish unity and independence. Life Born in Feeny, County Londonderry, Ireland, Irwin was educated at the local national school in Rallagh, and then at Magee College. In 1900 he went to the University of Edinburgh studying arts, and pursuing his clerical studies in New College. Irwin was ordained a Presbyterian minister in November 1903 in Killead Church, County Antrim, where he ministered until 1926. He was a Home Ruler who converted to the republican cause post-1916. Sir James Campbell Irwin ( – ) was an Australian architect and government official. Irwin studied architecture at the South Australian School of Mines and Industries, under the stewardship of George Soward. He joined the firm of Woods, Bagot, Jory & Laybourne-Smith as a draughtsman in 1927, becoming a partner in 1930. Jim Irwin (February 7, 1934 – January 22, 2012) was a longtime sportscaster at WTMJ Radio in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He is probably best known as having been the radio voice of the Green Bay Packers for 30 years. Career Irwin worked with former Packer Lionel Aldridge, and was paired for 20 seasons with Super Bowl I hero Max McGee. Irwin also called Milwaukee Brewers baseball, Milwaukee Bucks basketball, and Wisconsin Badgers football and basketball games. He joined the Packers radio broadcasts as a color commentator in 1969 and assumed play by play duties in 1975, a position he held until his retirement after the 1998 season, along with morning sportscasting and commentary duties on WTMJ's morning program. He was inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame in 2003. Irwin continued to contribute occasionally to WTMJ after he retired. James Irwin Brownson, Sr., D.D. (March 14, 1817 – 1899) was a clergyman and academic in Washington, Pennsylvania. He served as pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Washington, Pennsylvania, for over 50 years. Biography He was born on March 14, 1817, in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania.
