James Hooker (New York Politician)
James Hooker (July 12, 1792 – September 2, 1858) was an American lawyer and politician from New York (state), New York. Early life Hooker was born in Windsor, Connecticut, Windsor, Hartford County, Connecticut, on July 12, 1792. He was the son of Captain James Hooker (1742–1805), a merchant, and his third wife, Mary (née Chaffee) Hooker. Hooker graduated from Yale College in 1810, and then studied law at the Litchfield Law School. Career He was Probate court, Surrogate of Dutchess County from 1828 to 1840. In 1836, he was a presidential elector. In February 1840, he was elected by the New York State Legislature one of the Erie Canal Commission, canal commissioners and was legislated out of office by the Act of May 6, 1844, which re-organized the Canal Commission. Personal life Hooker married Helen Sarah Reade (1790–1879), the daughter of John Reade (1745–1808) and Livingston family, Catherine Livingston Reade (1756–1829). James Benjamin Hooker
James Benjamin Hooker (May 1910 – September 6, 1984) was a farmer and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Notukeu-Willow Bunch from 1964 to 1971 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Liberal. He was born in Lafleche, Saskatchewan, the son of George W. Hooker, and was educated in Woodrow and in Regina. In 1937, Hooker married Joan Whitby. He farmed in the Lafleche area for 35 years. Hooker was a member of the town council for Lafleche, also serving as mayor from 1953 to 1962. He was also president of the Saskatchewan Curling Association and chairman of the Lafleche Union Hospital Board, and of the Lafleche Community Recreation Co-operative. Hooker was defeated by Allen Engel when he ran for reelection to the provincial assembly in 1971. James Hooker (born July 20, 1948) is an American keyboard player, singer/songwriter and composer. Biography Early years Hooker grew up in South Carolina. He began performing in nightclubs during his 9th grade school year. Leaving school before entering his senior year, he moved to Charleston, South Carolina to work in the house band "The Magnificent Seven", at The Merchant Seamans Club on East Bay Street. Session work In 1968, Hooker became a member of the Hi Rhythm Section for HI Records at Royal Studios in South Memphis. While working with Eddie Floyd in early 1970, Hooker met and recorded with Jimi Hendrix (before Hooker changed his name from James Brown). Hooker moved to Muscle Shoals, Alabama in 1971, where he worked for Rick Hall as a member of the FAME Gang at FAME Studios. This was also when he began writing songs.
