James Day Hodgson
James Day Hodgson (December 3, 1915November 28, 2012) was an American politician. He served as the Secretary of Labor and the Ambassador to Japan. Life and career Hodgson was born in Dawson, Minnesota, the son of Fred Arthur Hodgson, a lumberyard owner, and his wife, Casaraha M. ('' née'' Day). He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1938 where he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity, and began graduate studies at the University of California at Los Angeles. He married the former Maria Denend on August 24, 1943. They had two children, Nancy Ruth Hodgson, and Frederick Jesse Hodgson. During World War II, Hodgson served as an officer in the United States Navy. He worked for Lockheed for 25 years. From 1970 to 1973, Hodgson served as Richard Nixon's Secretary of Labor, and from 1974 to 1977, he served as the U.S. Ambassador to Japan under Gerald Ford. James Hodgson (cricketer, Born 1972)
James Hodgson (born 28 March 1972) is a former English cricketer. Hodgson was a right-handed batsman who bowled leg break. He was born at Reading, Berkshire. After representing England Schools, Hodgson toured New Zealand with England Under 19 team in 1991, playing in one Youth ODI. Hodgson went on to play for Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club 2nd XI with limited success. Hodgson made his Minor Counties Championship debut for Berkshire in 1993 against Oxfordshire. From 1993 to 1998, he represented the county in 33 Minor Counties Championship matches, the last of which came in the 1998 Championship when Berkshire played Oxfordshire. Hodgson also played in the MCCA Knockout Trophy for Berkshire. His debut in that competition came in 1994 when Berkshire played Buckinghamshire. James Simon Hodgson (born 1969) is the Headmaster of Bedford School and a former English cricketer. Biography Born in Guildford, Surrey, on 30 April 1969, James Hodgson was educated at Wellington College and Durham University. He continued his studies at Hughes Hall, Cambridge. He taught at Tonbridge School, was Usher at Magdalen College School, Oxford, and became the Headmaster of Bedford School in 2014. Cricket James Hodgson was a right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm off break. He made his first-class debut for Cambridge University against Nottinghamshire in 1994. During the 1994 season, he represented the University in 9 first-class matches, the last of which came against Oxford University. In those 9 matches, he scored 256 runs at a batting average of 18.28, with a single half century high score of 54. In the field he took 8 catches. James Hodgson (mathematician)
James Hodgson (1672–1755) was an English astronomer, mathematical teacher, lecturer and writer. Life The nephew of Christopher Wren, Hodgson was an assistant to the first Astronomer Royal, John Flamsteed, at the Royal Observatory, Greenwich, between 1695 and 1702. In 1703 he was elected Fellow, and in 1733 one of the council, of the Royal Society. He was master of mathematics at the Royal Mathematical School at Christ's Hospital from 1709 until his death. Hodgson married Flamsteed's niece in 1702, took part in the controversies in which Flamsteed was engaged and helped bring his works to posthumous publication. He promoted Flamsteed's work in his textbook ''A System of the Mathematics'' (1723) and has been credited with improving standards and examination success at the School. Hodgson died on 25 June 1755, leaving a widow and several children.
