James Griffiths (Australian Politician)
James B. Griffiths (26 June 1872 – 21 June 1916) was an Australian trade unionist and Labor Party politician. He was elected to the Legislative Council of Western Australia in May 1916, representing North-East Province, but died after less than a month in office. The Western Australian Legislative Council is the upper house of the Parliament of Western Australia, a state of Australia. It is regarded as a house of review for legislation passed by the Legislative Assembly, the lower house. The two Houses of Parliament sit in Parliament House in the state capital, Perth. Effective on 20 May 2005, for the election of members of the Legislative Council, the State was divided into 6 electoral regions by community of interest —3 metropolitan and 3 rural—each electing 6 members to the Legislative Council.. The 2005 changes continued to maintain the previous malapportionment in favour of rural regions. Legislation was passed in 2021 to abolish these regions and increase the size of the council to 37 seats, all of which will be elected by the state-at-large. Harry Millington (politician)
Harold Millington (24 April 1875 – 25 October 1951) was an Australian politician. He was a Labor Party member of the Parliament of Western Australia; as a member of the Legislative Council for North-East Province for six years from 1914, and as a member of the Legislative Assembly from 1924 to 1947, representing the electorates of Leederville (1924–1930) and Mount Hawthorn (1930–1947). He was a long-serving state minister in the governments of Philip Collier and John Willcock, and was Deputy Premier under Willcock. Millington was born in Gawler, South Australia, and moved to Western Australia in 1894. He was a miner by trade and became active in various unions in Goldfields. He became the first president of the Amalgamated Surface Workers' Union and the secretary of the Eastern Goldfields District Council of the Labor Party. Mount Leonora was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Western Australia from 1904 to 1930. The district was located in the Goldfields region, and was based in the town of Leonora.
