Danny Gay (politician)
Donald "Danny" David Gay (born December 12, 1950) was a politician in the Province of New Brunswick, Canada. He served as Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick from 1995 to 1997. He was educated at St. Francis Xavier University and Mount Saint Vincent University. Gay, a New Brunswick Liberal, was elected to the legislature in the 1987 election which saw his party win every seat under Frank McKenna. He was re-elected in the 1991 and 1995 elections but was defeated in 1999. He was elected speaker following the 1995 election but resigned to join McKenna's cabinet in 1997 as Minister of Fisheries. He continued in that post under Ray Frenette and Camille Thériault who succeeded McKenna as Premier of New Brunswick. Following his defeat in 1999, he worked for the federal government in Ottawa, and then taught English in China. Miramichi Bay-Neguac (french: Baie-de-Miramichi-Neguac) is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, Canada. It was formerly known more simply as Miramichi Bay. The riding was created from part of the multi-member Northumberland riding, and was first contested in 1974. At the 2013 boundary adjustment, the riding moved western and inland taking in the northeast parts of the City of Miramichi and rural areas to the north and west of the city. The riding's previous representative in the Legislative Assembly was Carmel Robichaud of the Liberal Party. Roger Duguay, leader of the New Democratic Party from 2007 to 2010, was that party's candidate in Miramichi Bay-Neguac in the 2006 provincial election. Chatham, New Brunswick
Chatham is an urban neighbourhood in the city of Miramichi, New Brunswick, Canada. Prior to municipal amalgamation in 1995, Chatham was an incorporated town in Northumberland County along the south bank of the Miramichi River opposite Douglastown. Since amalgamation, it has been sometimes referred to as Miramichi East. Impact of geography on history At Chatham, the Miramichi River is quite wide, the water salt and tidal. Just downstream from the town, the river begins to widen into a broad estuary, where the Miramichi River gradually becomes Miramichi Bay. Because of its eastward facing location, ships coming from the British Isles in early times had easy access through the Strait of Belle Isle and across the Gulf of St. Lawrence. It was more accessible and safer to get to than the ports of Quebec City or Saint John, New Brunswick. Tilly O'Neill-Gordon (born February 16, 1949) is a Canadian politician, represented the New Brunswick electoral district of Miramichi in the House of Commons from 2008 to 2015. She is a member of the Conservative Party. Biography She was born to Tom and Carmel (Jimmo) O’Neill. Her family moved to the Chatham, New Brunswick in 1961 and she graduated St. Michael's Academy in 1967. After graduating she attended Teachers’ College in Fredericton and began teaching in 1970 in her native village of Escuminac. In 1972 she was transferred to Nelson-Miramichi followed by another transfer the next year to Chatham Head. She remained there for 15 years until the school closed officially in 1988, when she was transferred to Ian Baillie Primary until retirement in 2003. She then re-entered the teaching profession a year later at Burnt Church and was employed there until being elected.
