James Fulton (Canadian Politician)
James Ross "Jim" Fulton (January 22, 1950 – December 21, 2008) was a New Democratic Party Member of the Parliament of Canada from British Columbia. Educated at Simon Fraser University, Fulton worked for the province as a probation officer until he entered politics. He was first elected to the House of Commons of Canada in the 1979 federal election in Skeena riding. He was re-elected in three subsequent elections before retiring prior to the 1993 federal election. In Parliament, Fulton served as the NDP's Small Business Critic (1979) and as the party's environmental critic from 1980 until he left office in 1993. He also, at various times, served concurrently as forestry critic and as the party's spokesperson on aboriginal affairs. Forrest Fulton
Sir (James) Forrest Fulton (12 July 1846 – 25 June 1926) was a British judge and Conservative politician. Early life Born in Ostend, Belgium, he was the youngest son of Lieutenant-Colonel James Forrest Fulton and his wife, Fanny née Jessopp. Fulton was educated at Norwich School under his uncle, the Reverend Augustus Jessopp before attending the University of London. He graduated with a BA degree in 1867 and Bachelor of Laws degree in 1873. Legal career 1872–1886 Fulton was called to the bar at the Middle Temple in 1872. Practising on the South Eastern Circuit, he held a number of senior legal posts including treasury counsel at the Middlesex Sessions, senior counsel to the Post Office and senior counsel to the Treasury at the Central Criminal Court. James Fulton (New Zealand Politician)
James Fulton (27 June 1830 – 20 November 1891) was a 19th-century Member of Parliament in Otago, New Zealand and a cricketer. Biography James Fulton was born in Bengal, and went to New Zealand in the late 1840s. On 22 September 1852, he married Catherine Valpy, a daughter of one of Dunedin's most prominent and prosperous families. His wife was to become a notable suffragette. They had three sons and three daughters. His two eldest sons, Arthur Fulton (1853-1889) and James Edward Fulton (1854-1928) were prominent civil engineers. He played five first-class cricket matches for Otago between 1863 and 1868. These were the first five first-class matches played in New Zealand, and scores were very low. He made the top score of the match in the first two matches: 25 not out in the first match, which Otago won, and 22 in the second, which Canterbury won. He captained Otago in three of his matches. James Fulton (trade Unionist)
James Fulton (1868 – May 1925) was a Scottish trade unionist. Born in Glasgow, Fulton worked as an iron moulder, joining the Associated Iron Moulders of Scotland (AIMS) union, and also the Independent Labour Party. He was elected to the union's executive council, and by the early 1910s was its vice-chair. In 1913, Fulton was elected as one of three assistant secretaries of AIMS, alongside John Whyte and Robert Smith, with a remit to focus on the new benefits scheme administered by the union. He proved successful, and in August 1918 he was elected as general secretary of the union. He worked closely with the union's president, Tom Bell, and supported the Clyde Workers' Committee, giving strike pay to its members who took industrial action. Judge Fulton
James "Judge" Fulton (1739 – 25 September 1826) was a justice of the peace, judge, surveyor, politician, and founder of the village of Bass River, Nova Scotia. Born in Belfast, Fulton migrated from Ulster to New England around 1760, where he worked as a surveyor. Arriving in Nova Scotia in 1765, he settled by 1767 in the Londonderry Township, an area settled primarily by Ulster families since 1761. He was appointed JP for the district of Colchester, which was then still part of Halifax County. He was one of the first land grantees of the township. In 1791, he was appointed a judge of the Inferior Court of Common Pleas for Colchester and in 1793 was commissioned as captain of the local militia regiment. He also made the first complete survey of the township and its villages. Fulton was elected to the 8th General Assembly of Nova Scotia, representing rural Halifax County from 1799-1806. Dr. James E. Fulton Jr., M.D., (February 25, 1940 – July 4, 2013) was an American dermatologist and medical researcher who co-invented Retin-A, a popular acne medication, in 1969. Fulton co-developed tretinoin, known by the brand name as Retin-A, with Dr. Albert Kligman. Fulton was also pioneer for his use of new procedures and treatments in dermatology. He is believed to be the first dermatologist to include an aesthetician on the staff of his medical team. His inclusion of an aesthetician was initially criticized by other dermatologists, but soon earned acceptance and is now widely practiced in the field. Fulton also championed the early use of fat transfer for breast augmentation and surgical procedures to alleviate acne scars. James Fulton (civil Engineer)
James Edward Fulton (11 December 1854 – 6 December 1928) was a New Zealand surveyor and civil engineer. He was born in Outram, South Otago, New Zealand on 11 December 1854, and was the son of James and Catherine Valpy Fulton. He was survived by his wife and daughter (born 19 June 1887). He worked for a short time as an engineer in flax mill, before becoming a Public Works Department cadet. In 1875 he went to Napier and in 1878 was promoted to Assistant Engineer. He left PWD in 1880 and worked on the Kaihu railway. He became Resident Engineer of the Longburn-Waikanae section of the Wellington-Manawatu Railway from 1882 under Harry Higginson (with his brother Arthur Fulton), and the WMR manager and locomotive superintendent from 1889. He resigned in 1897 after accepting responsibility for an incident when his unofficial special train to Plimmerton with an engine and a carriage for his family met a freight train head on; trains were not normally scheduled on a Sunday!
