James Fowler (Massachusetts Politician)
James Fowler (1788 – October 18, 1873) was an American lawyer and politician. Fowler, eldest child of Samuel Fowler and Jemima (Lyman) Fowler, was born in Westfield, Mass., in 1788, and died in the same town, October 18, 1873, aged 85. He was the last survivor of the Yale College class of 1807. He studied law at the Litchfield Law School, but mainly followed agricultural pursuits in his native town. From 1820 to 1830 he was successively a member of both houses of the Massachusetts State Legislature. He was also one of the Massachusetts Governor's Council, and filled a number of local offices. James Fowler (Australian Politician)
James Mackinnon Fowler (20 June 1863 – 3 November 1940) was an Australian politician who served as a member of the House of Representatives from 1901 to 1922, representing the Division of Perth. He began his career in the Australian Labor Party (ALP), but joined the Liberal Party in 1909 and then the Nationalist Party in 1917. Early life Fowler was born on 20 June 1863 in Millholm, Lanarkshire, Scotland. He was the son of Mary (née McKinnon) and James Fowler, his father being a farmer. He was educated locally before moving to Glasgow, where from 1884 he worked in a countinghouse. He later worked in drapery firms in Glasgow and Manchester before immigrating to Australia in 1891. Fowler initially settled in Victoria, where he was a prospector on the goldfields and was a member of the Victorian Socialist League. James Fowler (architect)
James Fowler (11 December 1828 – 10 October 1892), known as 'Fowler of Louth', is best known as a Victorian English church architect and associated with the restoration and renovation of churches. However, he was also the architect of a wide variety of other buildings. A listing of his work compiled in 1991 traced over 210 buildings that he designed or restored. He is known to be the architect for 24 new churches and his work also included 40 vicarages or rectories, 13 schools, four almshouses, a Savings Bank, a convalescent home and hospital as well as country houses and estate housing. Most of Fowler’s work was in Lincolnshire and particularly around Louth, but he also worked in the East Riding of Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, Staffordshire, Suffolk, London, Sussex and Devon. James Fowler (footballer)
James Fowler (born 26 October 1980) is a Scottish professional football coach and former player. As a player, Fowler spent fourteen years of his career with Kilmarnock, making over 400 league appearances, and represented Scotland internationally at under-21 and B levels. Towards the end of his playing career, Fowler signed with Queen of the South as a player/coach. He was soon afterwards appointed team manager, and held this position until April 2016. He then assisted Jack Ross at St Mirren and Sunderland, the latter where he became caretaker manager after Ross’ departure. Fowler returned to Kilmarnock in November 2019 as Head of Football Operations and was interim manager on two occasions. He left the position in July 2022. James Alexander Fowler (February 22, 1863 – November 18, 1955) was an American lawyer who served in various capacities as an Assistant Attorney General and special assistant to the U.S. Attorney General from 1908 to 1914, and from 1921 to 1926. In this role, he either argued or prepared briefs for several notable Supreme Court cases, and was active in the organization of the short-lived Commerce Court. Fowler was an unsuccessful candidate for Governor of Tennessee in 1898 as well as for U.S. Senator in 1928. He served one term as mayor of Knoxville, Tennessee, from 1927 to 1929. James Bonard Fowler (September 10, 1933 – July 5, 2015) was an Alabama state trooper, known for fatally shooting civil rights activist Jimmie Lee Jackson on February 18, 1965, during a peaceful march by protesters seeking voting rights. Fowler was among police and state troopers who attacked unarmed marchers that night in Marion, Alabama. A grand jury declined to indict him that year. It was not until 2005 that Fowler acknowledged shooting Jackson, a young deacon in the Baptist church, claiming to have acted in self defense. In response to Jackson's death, several days later civil rights leaders initiated the Selma to Montgomery marches as part of their campaign for voting rights.
